The scandal is not fund raising as the article mentions, but some other type of raising :)

Good riddance, for whatever the reason. Personally, his sexual orientation means nothing to me and is not an issue. But like everything else with him the real motive is something else.

At least this should mean that we no longer need suffer through the endless taxpayer-financed self-aggrandizing commercials where he tells us all the wonderful things he's doing for New Jersey, like EZ Pass, property taxes, the new DMV, etc.

I don't think he was such a bad Governor......but then I am a liberal.

So am I. Liberal or not, he's a crook.

I am not the least bit surprised by this, this was started with the BS corruption charges before and they are just finishing off the job. It's the same stuff Clinton went through. Just anyone try to stand in the way of overdevelopment in this state. Yeah, I don't care about his sexuality either and I thought his speech was very brave and honest. He was a brave governor and tried to tackle some problems noboody wants to deal with...they usually get rid of his type. That's all I have to say...I know how welcome my comments are around here :?

I would consider myself a liberal as well... you won't see me pull any levers for George Bush in the fall. But McGreevy is an embarrassment, and reinforces the stereotype that people have of NJ as a corrupt place. After promising reform in Trenton he loads up his staff with political flunkees who are constantly being exposed and prosecuted. The only time in my life that I voted for a Republican was when Christie Whitman ran against him. In that campaign he had no platform whatsoever, except to lower auto insurance costs. Truth is, nobody is going to do that. The insurance companies want out of NJ and are only staying so they can sell you other forms of insurance. (Christie also wins points with me for bailing out of the Bush cabinet after having the rug pulled out from under her multiple times)

And as everyone is saying, this is the tip of a big iceberg which will be revealed in the days to come. His ex-lover is an Israeli citizen who served as director of counterterrorism? He couldn't get security clearance as a foreigner and is evidently the subject of an FBI probe already.

So McGreevy now hopes to get our sympathy and will soon complain about how he's being persecuted for being gay. If I were gay this would offend me even more.

I'm sorry to rant, but this guy has been an idiot, made a lot of bad choices, and is probably corrupt himself as well. Like I said, good riddance. I don't see how we could do much worse than him.

Hey, I try to be open minded but it's very hard when it comes to McGreevy. I don't follow the news from Trenton all that much.... what did he do to try and stop overdevelopment? I remember hearing about some large contributor to his campaign that enjoyed a multi million dollar windfall in selling some north Jersey farmland to the state for preservation.

Looks like he's well along the way to becoming a martyr in your opinion. I don't think this is the same as Clinton. Monica Lewinsky was not a foriegner hired as a counter-terrorism advisor for $110,000/year, and wasn't about to launch a big public lawsuit. For that matter, Clinton didn't resign with perfect timing to allow the appointment of a political friend as his heir and then try to solicit our sympathy; he stayed, he fought, he won.

Also notice how he said "I am a gay American" and not "I am a gay New Jerseyan"?

It's not the fact that he's gay. It's not the fact that he had an affair. It's all of his friends getting free rides on my tax money that I don't like.

Trips to Ireland.
Helicopter Rides.
Makeovers
Trips to China

The list goes on and on.

I don't really remember too much he's done to stop overdevelopment. I do remember that he was pretty wishy-washy on the whole Pay to Play scandal.

Jokerman, your opinion is welcome here. I'm not the mad dictator that some people make me out to be.

First in the cost of Auto Insurance.
First in the cost of property taxes.

First state to have a govenor 'fall' out of the closet

No wonder all the other states think NJ is the land of Stinky Oil Refineries, corrupt politicians, & the sopranos.

Watch, he'll end up being some kind of PAC for the gays next; this guy likes to chase money so that could be a reality

Well, considering how he just hushed and pushed through the bill for permit fast tracking, I would say he's done more damage now. That's a free ride to undisputed overdevelopment right there and now that he's gone, this hushed up bill will take an ever bigger back seat to his resignation and the new interim governor.

Click for text of article from PPA (http://www.pinelandsalliance.org/Pages/Newsletter/ITPV11N6.html)

We'll see how the Senate President deals with being the interim governor for such a long period of time.

Wis, I agree with you and was just thinking the same thing about his next career! But maybe there could be some hope of him cleaning up his act? Maybe he could actually change and help the gay cause? Guess I'm being a little too idealistic... Whatever happens, I will like him better as as "gay American" than as a New Jersey Governor!

At least this should end Sharpe James' arena in Newark...or make the teams pay for it!

It seems that there were various rumors floating around Trenton & one of them was that the Arena project was McGreedy's way of keeinig Sharpe James from blowing the story... :bear:

In that campaign he had no platform whatsoever, except to lower auto insurance costs. Truth is, nobody is going to do that. The insurance companies want out of NJ and are only staying so they can sell you other forms of insurance.

If you believe that, try Mercury Insurance - the first new company in New Jersey in years. I was staying on a Pennsylvania policy because NO-ONE would give me a policy in NJ. My girlfriend was paying $500/month for her NJ auto insurance policy. She had just about given up on finding a better rate when I did a search for "McGreevy insurance reform" on Google. I found an article on Mercury Insurance, and found an agent, D'Agostino in Hammonton. The two of us are now insured in NJ for less than she was paying before (with StateFarm).

There are few things by which I can measure the value of government. I feel that most of the changes a government institutes don't have an immediate effect on my life. While I know very little about McGreevy, this one change in government policy (was it tort reform?) had an immediate effect which saved me thousands. State taxes don't make "thousands" of difference to me, and I don't own property (yet) so I can't speak on that matter, but McGreevy positively effected my pocket, and I like it.

Bah, State Farm. For no reason, they dropped us last year. We were in the process of moving, so we didn't have money for new insurance. So I went 3-4 months without it. When we got a new policy (All State I believe), we had to pay extra because we lapsed. My policy was about $1800 a year.

And then I called Geico. Oh yes, Geico.....I love that gecko. Instead of paying $1800 a year, I now pay just over $1000 a year.

How were the voters supposed to know he was having an affair with that guy? It did not become public until he gave that press conference, so that's not why anybody voted for him. It's over now, he was publicly disgraced and he resigned. He is not our problem any more, so why worry about it.

The problem is it appears many people want the book. I feel bad for anyone who he mentions in that book in a poor light. Think about it, you join his administration thinking you are doing good for the state and also keeping food on the table, and he turns around and maybe talks about things that you discussed in a work environment that should never see the light of day again.

Maybe he was trying to do his best for the state, and he should now be doing what is best for his wife, kids, friends, and former coworkers, and that is keeping his mouth shut or pen silenced.

I don't think he was such a bad Governor......but then I am a liberal.

There have been worse. In recent times, for example, Mdme. Christie "The Wicked Witch of the North" Whitman, who did a "number" on the citizenry of this State in manny, many ways, but especially with her $2.5 billion "ham sandwich." That delightfull "deli special" is still caught in the gullet of the taxpayer --- Enjoy the new 7% sales tax curtesy of Madam Whitman!

McGreevy was incredibly stupid. Kushner introduced him to Golan Cipel, who was, at one time, rumored to be a Mossad agent posing as a "poet."!? Hoo, hah! Kushner, another cretin from the North, did a "number" on one of his relatives --- and wound--up in the "klink." Now, he is in a halfway house --- ready to bilk the New Jersey taxpayer again, once he is set "foot free."

Kushner, before his arrest and conviction, was to develop the large Garwood Mills (aka. "Garbage Mills") site at the northend of Absecon Island. Callaway got caught (with some "friends") taking bribes to help others "develop" the area...

Kushner's son, in the meantime, bought a Jewish newspaper that is on the skids, and pledges to "revitalize" it. He has distanced himself from his father, as much as possible...

Ho, ho, ho!

Callaway will get time, too, but IT ISN'T KNOWN IF HE WILL GET A STATE PENSION, WHEN HE GETS OUT...!!!??? :jeffd:

Who runs NJ, a bunch of morons?

Atlantic City's "New Monopoly Game": Get convicted, Go to Jail, Collect a State Pension (at taxpayer expense) for the rest of your life!
