Right smack in the middle of western central Suffolk lies the former Edgewood hospital property, now a DEC preserve. Proof that you don't always have to go out east to see some thick piney woods.
There's this abandoned road that runs the length of the preserve, which is the best way to walk through. What's weird is the road is concrete, and in spots there are fire hydrants, as well as utility poles with wires still on them.
There used to be a mental institution here, some say the woods are haunted.
Wonder what goes on in there at night....:jd:

It is kind of shocking to realize there are place up there that look desolate. I can't wait to take a trip up there.

Reminds me of the road that goes from Colliers Mills down along NAS Lakehurst to Hornerstown Rd. Real desolate. Awesome pics!

Glad they saved it. Is that Old Commack Road?

Yes, it is Old Commack Rd. The entire length appears to be intact, with some pavement patches over the concrete here and there.
