View Full Version : Crescent moon tonight
I hope everyone got out long enough to see the beautiful crescent moon tonight! As soon as I saw it I felt compelled to play around with my telephoto lenses! :)

Very nice photo's. Thanks for posting them.

Thanks! If you go out there now you might still catch a glimpse of the thin crescent moon. It was peeking in and out of the clouds here a little while ago... in fact, I think I'll head out for another walk and see if it's still there :)

Boyd,
I think tomorrow night (Saturday) at 5:58PM there is going to be a lunar eclipse.

Dang - I'll be out of town on a business trip. But the full moon was spectacular tonight!

Great photos. I got a rare chance to enjoy the moon and a cigar tonight...the little things.

:) Great photos,on the full moon pic, what lens did you use? Also, for focus on that pic,did you use a knife edge,or a hartman mask?
Lens was an old Spiratone 500mm f8 mirror telephoto (equiv to 750mm on my DSLR). Just focused as usual with my Nikon D80. One reason I chose the D80 was the very nice, bright, crisp viewfinder and focusing screen which is a big improvement over their older lower-priced DSLR's.

:mrgreen:An oldie but goodie.
Very funny - I was definitely out there howlin' !
I find the moon pretty irresistable, especially as a thin crescent or when it's full. And I also have a friend who is fascinated by the moon, although she spends most of her time indoors in the city, so I like to send her photos like this.
