    Sawmill Locations

    All,

Here is a quick attempt to put all of the sawmills I know of in one post. I have more to add in the coming days and will not post the coordinates if I know it is private property, or have concerns it is private property.

    Guy

    Sawmill # 1

Jeff (Woodjin) located this. It can be found just off Route 70 near Reeves Bogs on Arkansas Trail.

    39.91394
    -74.54552

    Sawmill # 2

Jeff (Woodjin) located this. It can be found on the opposite side of the Oswego from Martha Furnace.

    39.68874
    74.51371

    Sawmill # 3

Jeff (Woodjin) located this. It can be found behind Barnegat Wreckers just off of Route 72.

    39.81231
    -74.40119

    Sawmill # 4

First brought to my attention by Barry Caselli from the Ghost Town website. It is located along Friendship Road near Godfrey’s Bridge

    39.68843
    -74.55302

    Sawmill # 5

Jeff (Woodjin) located this. It is most likely the Emmor W. Mick Sawmill located on what I believe to be private property near Route 70. This is the only one I have visited that still has viewable remains of a building.

    Sawmill #6

Ed Campbell (edcampbell) located this after a controlled burn. It can be found just off of Carranza Road near the Batona Trail.

    39.76896
    -74.62653

    Sawmill # 7

Kingofthepines located this. It can be found in Browns Mills just north of Mirror Lake on Trenton Road.

    39.98749
    -74.59310

    Sawmill # 8

Myself and various others knew of this location, and Ben’s research has named it as Van Note Camp. It is located on Glassworks Road near Buckingham.

    39.92648
    -74.47801

    Sawmill # 9

Located by PBX (Pine Barren Explorers) on the “Hiking The Featherbed” outing. It is located off of Carranza Road between the Featherbed Branch and the Shane Branch.

    Sawmill # 10

Located by Bob (pbxbob) on the “Half Wet, Half Dry, All Wild” PBX outing near Hawkins Bridge when he walked right across it.

    39°71646
    74°56302

    Sawmill # 11

Located by Scott (RedneckF350) along the Albertson Branch.

    39.69120
    -74.77069

    Sawmill # 12

Located by Jessica Thompson. Immediately after the below photo was taken we were approached by two men who said the property was private. As of yet I have not had time to check on that. This is located near Pine Crest.

    Sawmill # 13

Located near Batsto in the Mordecai Swamp. Incomplete GPS coordinates for now.

    Guy,
You may of course list this base. It is in Elm on the outskirts of Wharton just beyond Iron Mill but for now is on private property so coords I can give you but not post public. It's in pretty nice shape.

Geographically it is not terribly far from RedNek's Albertson base and may be from the same folk. Call it any number you wish.

There are birds, and sticks, and trees.

I don't have a pic of it but there are remains of an old sawmill at Cloverdale Park. I don't know the history of it but Mrs. Collins told me it was in ruins when her husband's family first arrived there.

What an awesome post, Guy. Thanks for taking the time to post all of those. Gives me a few new targets for this season's wandering.

This map, from Pinelands Folklife (Rutgers Univ Press, 1987) shows several sawmills (and other interesting stuff) in the Tuckahoe area.

I added 11, 12, and 13. GPS coordinates are limited for various reasons.
