My husband Dan has been working on screening in the back porch....almost done! When it is, I plan on sitting out there and sipping up a storm. When I make the next batch of blueberry, I will follow your suggestion and use my gran's banana recipe. How do you think it sounds as a basting relish over pork? Mmmmmm.

    THIS IS PART THREE
HOW TO: Bring sugar and water to boil over low heat stirring until all sugar is dissolved.
Stir in chopped cranberries and orange and cool.
Add vodka to mix and put into glass containers.
Store these in a cool dark place for 4 weeks, shaking every 3 days.
Drain mix through seive into bowl. (I use a large saucepan)
Discard the cranberries (It is my mission to find a use for this.....baking?)
Strain the liquid through the sieve lined with double thick cheesecloth, back and forth into the two saucepans until clear.
Pour into bottles and store for at least 4 weeks. (My mother who makes a mean Limoncello swears that it's best to leave it for 6 mos)

HINTS: You can buy 375ml. bottles at Gino's in Hammonton for $8.75 for a dozen. They also sell corks.

Have fun and call me when it's done!

    THIS IS PART TWO
I cook the 6x batch in two batches. It is easier to handle. These are the items that you will need to prepare the hooch. One large pot (2-3 gallon), One funnel, one large seive, 2 large saucepans to put in the sink and pour the mixture back and forth to clear, 2 packages of cheesecloth cut into squares. You will also need large glass jars with non-metal lids. Empty 1/2 gal. vodka bottles work well, because the inside of the lid is lined with plastic. A few years back I picked up wide mouth 1/2 gal. jars at the dollar store. For the 6x batch you will need about eight 1/2 gal. bottles.

Hi there you wonderfully crazy woman!
Yes, you must have the recipe. The original called for alcohol that was related to corn-licker'....I chose (wisely) to use 100 proof vodka
It suits the recipe well. I can only send this recipe to you in sections because my message is too long.
RECIPE GIVEN TO ME: 2 cups of sugar - 1 cup water - 3 cups vodka - 12 oz. cranberries - 1 teaspoon grated orange rind

MY RENDITION: 2 cups of sugar - 1 cup of water - 3 cups of vodka - 4 cups of cranberries - 1/2 of orange seeded and ground

MY MEASUREMENTS FOR 6X BATCH: 12 cups of sugar - 6 cups water - 18 to 20 cups vodka - 21 cups of cranberries -
    3 oranges seeded and ground

[I]The tree that moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes
Of others only a green thing that stands in the way.

Some see nature all ridicule & deformity....
& some scarce see nature at all.

But to the eyes of the man of imagination,
Nature is imagination itself.

As a man is so he sees.
