Thanks for finding that article and bringing it to our attention. I'd heard of the "Hermit" but had no idea he was such a keen observer of nature. The obvious comparison to Thoreau was conspicuous by its absence - and I'll have to cogitate some more before I'm not sure if that was or was not warranted.
Anyway, Thanks again for the thoughtful effort of bringing it to us.

Does it seem to you that beck is defending some of his previous writings? Maybe he was getting negative feedback over the years?

I didn't get the impression that he was defending it per-se.

What's interesting is that after 20 years the book was out of print and hard to find. Now, 70 years later, you can buy it in any book store in NJ.

Many thanks for your reference to the La-Ha-Way article. I'm in you debt for having relieved me of life-long ignorance of the hermit and his chosen environs.

I am daily impressed anew at the wondeful resource that is this website.
