Moderator Note: the first 8 posts in this thread were split from our Music for the Day thread.

Robin and Batman did.Not aware of any other musicians???
I"m simple.I thought you were asking Al,you said AI. I don't talk to AI unless a Google search is considered AI. No Alexa or Siri turned on on any devices here. We as a species can very seldmn demonstrate real intelligence and yet we want to create artificial intelligence? And folks are worried about something that people are programming becoming smart enough to take over people:) That can't lggvally happen unless of course sentient invisible beings from another dimension tool AI over????NAHHH!!!!

If you don't know how, using A-eye to search is super easy. Just click this box in the google search, and give them your question. It works very well.

There are certainly many good uses for AI, but not the examples posted here. Adam Buchler was our resident Bigfoot expert who hasn't been seen at NJPB for 10 years now. Why would an AI get him confused with Manumuskin? Probably the family resemblance. :D

But after you stop laughing, think about how serious this actually could be... like when you get pulled over by the police because they think you're someone else. AL has it right.

The tech giants are spending insane amounts of money to build data centers that are raising our electric bills (not to mention the environmental impact). And why would FaceBook or Google need these? It's not to cure cancer or build self-driving cars, it's for nonsense like the stuff posted here that we all find so amusing and get people lots of "likes" on Facebook. And once it has a huge AI data center, do you think Facebook will only use it for that kind of amusement? This is purely conjecture on my part, but I think they will use it to try and sell stuff to us because that's what their business is all about. Just imagine, Facebook could have an "AI clone" of you and use it to target you for ads and other invasions of privacy.

Meanwhile, there seems to be no end in sight to the stock market AI bubble. When will it pop and what will the consequences be? I find the whole thing very troubling. Over on the MacRumors forums, where we have over a million members and more than 10,000 posts a day, we have banned the use of AI in posts.

Don't post text produced by artificial intelligence ("generative AI"). Even if you use generative AI to research an issue, posts must be in your own words and represent your comments or opinions.

Of course, we need to enforce some pretty strict rules just to keep things under control on a forum that big, and one of the great things about NJPB is that we don't need to be so formal. So, I'm not suggesting that this should be a rule here but think it would be a great principle for people to voluntarily adopt.

As my handle is more often found on military, video game, and scale model forums, a general forum/handle AI search doesn't find me. However, I have no illusions about my level of online privacy. Your concerns about AI certainly resonate with me, Boyd, in terms of privacy, its uneven performance in providing accurate results, and its profligate use of energy. I generally do try to avoid using it. Viewing data from AI, it seems good practice to recall the old show tune title -- "It Ain't Necessarily So."

(Re the AI mention on the music thread, I did try to check each of the listed names to confirm their use of capes. Rick Wakeman had been the only one who came to the mind of this biological intelligence unit, though being reasonably sure there were others.)

I wasn't around here ten years ago, but a simple explanation for Adam's departure seems available. He and Al fought for dominance, and unlike what often happens in the nature documentaries, this time the tough, wily old silverback drove off the younger specimen. :D

Yes I see where the avatars might have confused AI.But my Avatar is Alfie Oop,basically a Mountain Gorilla with my mug attached, whereas as Adam is the one and olnly true Bigfoot. Adam tried hard to make me a Bigfoot believer. His recording he posted of someone beating on a log with a large stick almost did it but in the end it was too nonsensical to me,besides I was way too busy trying to prove a flat earth until a friend brought up the problem that if the earth really were flat the cats would have pushed everything off by now.Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Awhile ago I saw a discovery channel show about Bigfoot Hunters (?) where they went to the Pines. Sorry, but it was hilarious. Then I realized that this was the show Adam was so excited about coming to the Pines. IIRC, they were having trouble getting a film permit for Wharton. But they definitely found evidence of Bigfeet in the Parker Preserve! :jd:

[edit]Found the old thread..

Last night I watched the 2014 "South Jersey Sasquatch" episode of "Finding Bigfoot" on Discovery Plus, you may also be able to watch it somewhere else, not sure. There are a few old threads in the Slag Heap about them filming this show, they can be found with a search.

It's hilarious, I never watched that series before (and don't plan to again). They wander around in the dark howling and every strange sound is "definitely a Sasquatch". Then they interview some locals and immediately conclude that their stories "prove" there are lots of Sasquatches in the pines. They also think all the Jersey Devil sightings over the years were actually Sasquatches.

One of the guys gets "special permission" to camp in the Parker Preserve (which they call a "wildlife refuge") and proclaims it's a vast wilderness full of them, even though he never sees or hears one. Apparently they eat turtles, frogs and cranberries so it's the "perfect environment". One of those slag heap threads says that Wharton wouldn't give them a film permit, so I guess that's why they went to Parker? Another scene looks like it might be near Spring Hill.

There's a woman who says she's a "science teacher", says she saw a creature "as wide as the whole road" and 6 feet tall on all fours, although she doesn't call it a bigfoot. But the "investigators" quickly decide it couldn't be anything else and congratulate her on her first sighting. They also film a staged event at the Tabernacle(?) Town Hall (this is discussed in a slag heap thread too). Anyway, it's good for some mindless laughs if you want to waste 42 minutes. :D

Most, if not all, of the chain stores are using AI facial recognition in store, along with the AI license plate readers in the parking lot. A lawsuit was recently filed by a HD customer for using this technology to track him w/o his consent. There is no such thing as a hack-proof database anymore. So a picture of you using the self-checkout line at HD is likely already in North Korea. Best bet is to buy a full latex mask for use while shopping. To ensure they never find me, I wear a mask that resembles the late great Don Rickles. I imagine that wearing a Sasquatch mask would cause a panic.

Oh, c'mon Boyd, I was just flinging things around. Using Google AI is very useful. Instead of getting a bunch of trash and clickbait when you ask a question, it really does come through. It even gives sources on the side. For instance, a friend of mine is buying a home. He's can barely afford it so he's cutting corners. He was not going to employ a real estate attorney. I convinced him by asking the question on AI and sending him the link (below). He got an attorney. The flat fee is $1,200, soup to nuts.

Does a mortgage through an FHA loan require you to have a real estate attorney - Google Search

Referencing the 2014 South Jersey episode of Finding Bigfoot, WHYY made a whimsical April Fools audio trailer for a cinematic battle of the titans, Sasquatch vs. the Jersey Devil. It's just under two minutes long. There's also a nice accompanying illustration by Tony Auth.

Sasquatch vs. the Jersey Devil

Sorry, but it was hilarious.

My cryptozoological guilty pleasure was Mountain Monsters. I can't do justice to its level of goofiness.
