All,
Al, Bob, Jessica, and I spend the morning and early afternoon roaming through the Bear Swamp near Dividing Creek. Al had been there many times before and was showing us the sites.
Spiders
A sea of ferns
Bob at one of the trees along our route.
Swamp Azalea (Rhododendron viscosum). This was high in the air so I just held up my camera and hoped for the best.
An unknown plant that had not flowered yet.
Mermaid Weed (Proserpinaca palustris)
This is similar to Pink Lady Slippers but not quite. We think it is cypripedium. We were a few weeks late but Whipperbill may have photo’s of it in bloom.
This is not my photo but this would be it...we think.

As usual my memory failed me on this one.
The ticks could easily be viewed waiting for us along the paths. They would hang out on the vegetation and as I put the camera close it would open up it’s front legs trying to grab on, at times almost falling to the ground.
A closer look. They are not your friend!
And on the ride home we saved this one from oncoming cars. It looks like it may need saving more often.
Thank you Al for the tour, and as always it was great seeing Bob again.
