Hi All,

What is going on at this unique mansion from NJSSC owner's descendants? Did NJ buy the land? Is it public? The mansion and Holly farm is probably slowly getting destroyed. When will they or are they going to even preserve it?

When you say "Holly Farm", I think of the one in Millville that we've discussed here and elsewhere but don't think that's related to NJSSC. Sorry, never heard of NJSSC before. A Google search for NJSSC took me to the "New Jersey Ski and Snowboard Council"... is that what you meant? Searches for Wolf Mansion didn't seem to find anything relevant. Sorry, it's probably common knowledge... :)

Sorry. My understanding is that is belonged to the descendents of the owner of NJ Silica Sand Co. (NJSSC) Is the Holly Farm and mansion public land now? Last Pic I saw it looked trashed. Dirt bikes backed up to is slinging mud right onto the mansion. Can one visit site? Thanks..

Ah, OK, I know about NJ Silica Sand but just never saw it abbreviated that way, sorry. Did they ever own the Holly Farm? I know that Atlantic City Electric owned it for a number of years. As I posted above, my data shows that it is now part of the Menantico Ponds Wildlife Management Area. Obviously, the parcel data had not caught up with the NJDEP openspace data that I used, since it still shows AC Electric as the owner. I believe they have closed that WMA on and off at times, because of the damage people were doing (although that might have been a different part of the WMA). AFAIK, it's open again now... there are some threads about this somewhere.

Sorry, I don't have any other info on this...

The holly farm was a pet project of the owner of NJ Silica, named Wolf. The corporate owner after he died had no use for the farm and sold it off, I think to a former employee of Wolf who had botany education from Rutgers. A bad snowstorm devastated the farm and structures and it closed after that. I was already familiar with it from a forestry professor I had at Rutgers who spoke about it a few times, and it stuck in my memory. I think the farm and grower had a connection to an experimental holly grove at Rutgers. A few friends and I slept overnight between those trees a few times. Or maybe it was passed out among them. It's all a bit hazy now. ;)

The WMA at the Holly Farm is open but they leave the gate locked at the entrance year round so you have to walk or bike ride in. Seems like the off roading damage is worse now than when it was owned by ACE. All the planted trees were removed by the state 2-3 years ago so it’s all open field now around the buildings and the right side of the road. The mansion is still empty as of now but a few years ago (maybe in 2020?) I heard through the grape vine the mansion was going to be used as a NJ Conservation Officer headquarters but that’s been some years ago and hasn’t happened yet.

People were driving around the gate last time I was still out there. Is that still possible?

Yup they don't try to block it off or enforce it there but they did all that work to block off parking in menantico.
Yeah they piled dirt at my old parking spot by the tracks to stop people from going swimming in the land locked pond.hell I"ve walked more then a mile to go swimming in some of them holes, blocking those parking spots aint gonna stop people.I never swim there anyway,I used it to access other areas.Too easy to get caught there right next to the road.I swim spots their going to have to hoof to get to me.
