    Batona Trail Mile Markers

Is there an easy way to drive in close to mile-marker 5?

    Batona Trail Mile Markers

Another question: Does every mile have a half-mile marker? I seem to have missed documenting a few, but I'm pretty sure I would have seen them.

    Batona Trail Mile Markers

I have been logging the GPS coordinates of the markers as I (very slowly) hike the trail. What's a good place to share this info?

    Batona Trail Mile Markers

Thanks y'all, this is good info! Yes, I was looking for a map with the half-mile marker signs plotted. I'd love to see those paper versions, but I can understand if it's not really for the public. I was hiking on the Lenape Trail recently, and the NY–NJ Trail Conference has a really nice map...

    Batona Trail Mile Markers

Does anyone know, is there a map of the Batona with mile markers? Or some kind of digital version marked with GPS coordinates? I feel like something like this must exist.

    Wheaton Glass Dump

This is the spot where they've been cutting down tons of trees, right? I've been driving by wondering what was going on there.

Halloween at Maurice River Bluffs Preserve

Really interesting place. I started going fairly often this past year, and I'm struck by how different the landscape is only a few miles from where I live in Atlantic County. There are also these giant concrete pillar things. Does anyone know what they were part of?

Open Call for Art and Photography in Atlantic County Parks

Friends of the Parks, Inc. is looking for submissions of 2D drawing and painting and photography for our annual Plein Air event. I know there are some great photographers and artists here. We'd love to see your work! (This is normally an in-person painting day, but we've canceled due to the...

What new things would you like to see here?

The thing I like the most about this site is that there's an archive of posts going back 20 years, such a rarity on the web these days. My request would be to make sure everything is stored properly to last another 20 years. Also, I have noticed that a lot of the images are missing from older...

    Sunshine Park Nudist Colony

Growing up in Mays Landing, this place was infamous even into the 90s. Someone told me that jets from NAFEC would take very slow, wide turns when flying over Sunshine Park. I always thought it was where the RV park is now, but I believe it's actually here...

Signed Copy of Tall Pines at Catawba

I believe this book is rare. Found on eBay, signed by the authors. https://www.ebay.com/itm/354970556507?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11021.m43.l1120&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=9161c8ed2d784b169c9812614661b7d5&bu=43143136709&ut=RU&exe=0&ext=0&osub=-1%7E1&crd=20230810011953&segname=11021

    Shortleaf Pines

@Rooftree Thanks for the info! That's a good tree.

    Shortleaf Pines

Are there forests in the Pine Barrens (or elsewhere in South Jersey) that are primarily Shortleaf Pine? I'm sure I see them all the time mixed in with the Pitch Pines, but I have a hard time telling the difference.
