DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

The permit system creates a bigger list of things to cite offenders for, is my assumption. It might also mean they are considering allowing actual ORVs into the park, since it would give some sort of data about them. I dont see the permits being free, unless its like a trial thing. Free this...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

By resistance, what do you mean? Environmentalist? ORV? Government? I got the impression that the state wants to allow ORV use to create a revenue stream, but they know there's opposition. I feel like they're almost going through the motions to make ORV opposition think they are getting...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

This is New Jersey. Im not sure if you caught it in the beginning, but he specifically used the word "products" when speaking about this moving forward. Trenton would turn Wharton into a 100% Pay-To-Play ORV park if they could get away with it. They do not care one iota about any endangered...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Less than 300 people "tuned in". That could be a good thing. How many do you think care about maximizing access, is the question.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Wanted to chime in and say I went to the 130 clean up at Whispering Pines. We did much of the same. Dragging deadfall across the trails. As an ORV enthusiast, that area did look like it was in need of some mitigation. There is a small bog there that has been ridden fairly hard and was starting...

DEP determined to resolve pinelands access disputes

New Jersey *would* have a geocaching policy. Good grief.

DEP determined to resolve pinelands access disputes

How the heck does geocaching get you banned from a state forest? Its like a cross between hiking and an easter egg hunt.

DEP determined to resolve pinelands access disputes

You have a lot of people moving here from the cities. "Wow, I can actually ride my bike and not have to run from the cops?" I am fortunate enough to come from a place where off-highway opportunities exist in a similar way as here, so I have a natural respect and desire to keep these...

    Packs of them

Just more tax. This is a new problem in the streets in NJ. We had been dealing with it for almost a decade in Philadelphia. I place it in the top 3 reasons for me leaving Philly and coming back here. I couldn't take it anymore, and I ride. It's become so pervasive that the mentality among them...

DEP determined to resolve pinelands access disputes

Yes, and no. We would be paying for access. Whether it’s to get from some unknown entry point to some site, or just to drive the sand roads around aimlessly. My point isn’t that their system needs to be implemented here exactly as it is there, just that it does work and could be shuffled...

DEP determined to resolve pinelands access disputes

There are other places in the country where a permit system is implemented and does work. It doesn’t fix the problems, but enforcement helps. The permits go to pay for the officers, equipment, and materials needed to do so. Croom Motorcycle Area in Florida is a good example. People drive from...

    Identify this structure?

Gauge is a noun. Gage is a name. As a mechanic, I approve of your choice.

    Identify this structure?

I would think so. It’s not 19th century old, but it’s definitely 1950s at the latest I would think. I suspect older than that. I was looking for evidence of fasteners used because those are a great way to date equipment and structures and I didn’t really see any.

    Identify this structure?

Yes, and that would be it there.

    Identify this structure?

Very likely. I’m trying to find it on the map Boyd shared now. How long have they been keeping track of this data? The building seems exceedingly old, as the bricks are deteriorating, and the floor is metal and rotted through.
