Have ticks always been a problem?

Nice to hear from you, Jay! I will keep in touch and hope you do too. Don't forget to visit the Seminole Indian Reservation while you're down there. Check out an airboat ride too. You will never forget that. I was disappointed in those childhood miracle toys too. I ordered the 10 foot...

    unfortunate accident

Aww That's terrible but you did all you could do to save them. Good job. On that note, there is a Willet who has two eggs on the ground behind my house. It worries me to death that something is going to destroy or eat them. My neighbor told me he had raccoons under his house a while back but...

    Jersey Devil: Not Just Folklore?

Ha Ha Ha! Bob, you and Jerseyman crack me up! You know they are going to come out of the woodwork since the Jersey Devil is supposed to appear this year. I was married to the Houston Devil once.

Lyme Disease - Do You Have IT too?

Dragonfly Cathy, I am sorry to hear this. I wish the best for you and hope you can get rid of that horrible disease. This scares the crap out of me but I can't stay out of the woods! A not so funny thing, my husband comes home sometimes with ticks on him from working. He's an electrical...

    Not to brag but...

Very pretty but I LOVE THE BRONCO!!!!! What is the funny little cypress looking tree hanging over in the left hand corner of the first picture? That's adorable!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Squirrel Pardon me, Furball. You are correct. Lake Michigan is a little larger than Lake Okeechobee. As far as fox squirrel, they are abundant in Florida. You just haven't seen one yet. The most I've seen were beyond Orlando and they were large, darker brown...

    Revisiting the Rattlesnake

You'll probably find it down there in restaurants or on the reservations. It's the core of the cabbage palm, chopped up and cooked with a little pork. I could eat it until I exploded. It is delicious! Oh, and no lisp. I had one when I was little and took some sthpeech lessons.

    My that's a large spider

ARF! That's almost as bad as when (as a law enforcement officer) I found an old woman's body who'd been dead for about a week under an electric blanket in her home. OYE!! I had to burn my uniform it stunk so bad and I almost ran over myself trying to get out of the room before her stomach...

Have ticks always been a problem?

Yes, there have been quite a few exotic animals dumped in the woods/waters there. The pythons and iguanas have bred and gotten out of control. It's nothing to see a good gator vs. python fight with the python usually winning unless it's a large gator. Hmmmm, let's see, there are also...

    Revisiting the Rattlesnake

Right AT home! I moved from South Florida to North Florida and had a few acres in the woods. I was mowing the lawn on a small riding mower when I got bit near some palmettos. The water moccasin was in my kitchen. I'd left the door open that day. When it gets hot, they will come inside if you...

Have ticks always been a problem?

Sorry, I meant, Jay. LOL! Myakka State Park in Venice has about 20 something thousand acres of woodland trails some of them coming out on the beach. It's absolutely gorgeous there! There is so much to do! Oscar Sherer State Park (I think that is the name) is not nearly as big but has some...

    Revisiting the Rattlesnake

On another note.... I got bit on the right cheek (not on my face) by a pygmy rattlesnake years ago in Florida without warning. Well, if it did warn me I didn't hear it because their rattle sounds almost like a bumblebee. Anyway, the swelling and pain was terrible....immediately, getting worse...

Have ticks always been a problem?

You're very welcome, Jeff. I'm here if you need me! Let me know if I can help. I spent the majority of my life in Florida from one end of the State to the other. Good luck with your move and have a safe trip.
