Tell me about it.I climbed Katahdin at the age of 18 back in 82 and it was 95 degrees all the way to the top,not a breath of air above timber line or anywhere else and the Black flies ate me alive.I have a pic somehwere of my head and neck all swelled up an puro=ple.I ran into a college local half way up a few years older then myself.He ran out of water and I shared mine with him>I ran out of food and he shared his with me.Got to Thoreau spring on the Tableland and it was a stagnant pool with black flies all over it but it was cold.I scooped as many flies as I could off the surface and we bellied down and sucked it up.Then proceeded to the top.I was in very good shape back then and i thought I would die.We went up Abol Slide since it was the shortest way to the top.Big Mistake.They call it a slide for a reason.Every rock wiggled when you stepped on it.Going up no problem.Coming back down I almost broke my ankles and face several times.I was jelly kneed by half way down. Was clear though and got some awesome views.Could just make out the ocean on the southern horizon.No, logging can continue. Not quite up to the restriction level of a NP, but the first step; it is how Acadia began. It is not a large contiguous area like a park but is broken into sections.

I've been as far as Millinocket, my father used to go hunting in the Patten area. I prefer the coastal areas, less blood suckers
