pbs.org show "rare" incredible rare animal pics

Just saw a repeat (episode 2) of channel 12 show featuring photograher Joel Sartore making his "Photo Ark". Portraits of rare critters against a background of either pure white or dead black. He is documenting 5,000 rare species because half of them will be extinct by 2100.

Most of us on this forum understand the need for diversity in ecosystems, and the sheer beauty of these creatures. When you talk to people who don't, mention the ways other plant and animal species affect human survival. Example from this PBS series: a type of African bat that has resistance to the Ebola virus.
Sartore notes that the local people eat these bats and wonders, "How many other potential cures are we eating?"

Worth watching. His pics of cats (chinese tiger, Iberian lynx) perfectly show the implacable predator stare: Are you edible?

The online extras include tips for photographers.

This episode and the third are available on demand (Comcast) until 8-28
