Ugh. This gives me flashbacks. This is the very reason my house flooded right to the rafters more than once.

I recall the time you posted about it. There have been early ice breakup's and the resulting flooding in many area's of the NE attributed to the rains last week. And right after the breakup and flooding came the cold temps again. Pure misery.

One if the biggest fears during the spring thaw is "break-up".

It is a scary thing to experience the first time. Each spring we would find the river shoreline altered; big trees scraped away, river boulders moved. Some of the chunks must weigh several tons. I always wondered where the fish hide during one.

I have seen ice on the river lift and move the Coast Guard buoys substantial distances. It is an awesome and dangerous power.
