By CAITLIN DINEEN Staff writer | EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Firefighters responded to two forest fires Sunday night.
Rob Winkler, chief of the Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company, said the fires were reported at about 7:25 p.m. He said firefighters responded to a fire on Ridge Avenue near the Black Horse Pike when they were alerted to a fire nearby on Jefferson Avenue.

The Ridge Avenue fire was “small and easy to extinguish,” Winkler said. The one on Jefferson Avenue was put out after a longer battle. The extent of damage for both fires was unknown Sunday night.
Winkler said the cause of the fires has not been determined and would be investigated by the state Forest Fire Service.
