    Closing West Mill Road

Even more ironic is that the actual access road was/is just a road cutting through State lands with no dedicated right-of-way. That may or may not have been addressed by now by way of an easement. Tax maps still show nothing.

    Closing West Mill Road

I hate to revive this post that brings back very frustrating and disappointing memories, but I thought I would let others know that there is now a 24"+/- diameter pine dropped purposely across the entrance to West Mill Road at the edge of 206. I am thinking that it might be a temporary blockade...

    Hiking along Central Jersey line

I visit that trestle area pretty often. Hard to believe some J%rkoff thought it would be cool to set it on fire. My son shot his first Wood Duck there with a single shot 20 gauge 50 yards downstream from the trestle. My son hunkered down in the wet meadow grass and pass shot the duck. Not bad...

large block off RR in Atsion?

Here is a view looking north toward Atsion Lake Rec entrance. Jersey Central tracks are visible on east side. The tracks were paved over regularly over the years and then removed completely 10-15 years ago.

large block off RR in Atsion?

There were never any tracks north of the lake. The lake is north of what used to be two separate crossings across 206. I moved the crosshair into that spot. https://boydsmaps.com/#15.00/39.737058/-74.725769/vermeule/0.00/0.00

large block off RR in Atsion?

That is the Raritan Atco-Atsion Spur. The railbed later became what is now Raritan Avenue in Atco. It's all dirt from te beginning of Wharton and srossed 206 near the Atsion Re arae driveway. Here's an old thread: https://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/spur-from-atsion-to-atco.1832/ The 1870...

    Music for the day

My mother loved that song and she loved to sing along to it. She had a beautiful voice and she could sit down at a piano and play songs by ear. She also loved anything sung by Eddy Arnold. I can still hear her singing Make My World Go Away.

    Music for the day

I learned a life lesson from that song Boyd. I developed the habit of always selecting my cleanest dirty shirt before leaving the house!

    Music for the day

Kris was an amazingly talented songwriter and performer. Sunday Morning Coming Down is one of my favorites, sung by him and perhaps made more famous by Johnny Cash. Another one of my favorites is Here Comes That Rainbow Again. Not often played, but one of Kris' simplest songs and one of his...

    2007 Aerial Resolution

I had the same Magellan as you, Enormiss. It was my first too. I threw it out a few years ago when the screen finally gave up the ghost. I have had two Garmin 60's. I lost my first one by donating it to a highway after leaving it on my truck box. I love my 60 and I will never part with it. I...

    2024-25 Hunting and Trapping Seasons

WMA Ranges allow guests to shoot on the range with a person who holds a valid hunting license. I must say that WMA ranges are getting better and thay have expanded the caliber limitations. You can now shoot up to .30 cal. centerfire which includes the 30-06...

    2024-25 Hunting and Trapping Seasons

I saw that Guy mentioned he saw some people getting ready to hang a stand yesterday and I thought everyone would like to know the hunting seasons. Archery opened in many zones last week on September 14, so some of you may have seen bow hunters already. Archery will be fully open Statewide on...

    Pinelands Commission Question

As a Professional Planner, I live the nightmare of navigating the Pinelands CMP nearly every day. In 2023 the Commission adopted new stormwater management rules that are far more stringent than the State's rules for areas outside of Pinelands. Clearing of more than 5,000 s.f. is now is now...

    Mutant Piney Burley Tobacco

I changed the spark plug once and I clean the air filter every once in a great while. Cast iron trans housing with bronze gears. They really do last forever. All American-made back then when they were based in Troy NY. I bought it new right after we moved in 1984 and it became popular with...

    Mutant Piney Burley Tobacco

Yes, I use Osmocote on my tomatoes and peppers as a side dress just as the plants start setting fruit. It's a very slow release and it has never burned anything. My vegetable and tobacco garden prep is the same every year. At the end of the season I yank out all of my plants. In April, I rake...

A Fine Time For Fine Wine

In my limited experience with yeast, I got off flavors. One year I didn’t add enough sugar, but I did add the yeast. It was the driest wine I ever made. I have been making wine for close to 30 years now and I just rely on the sludge in the bottom of the bucket to get my yeast action.

    Mutant Piney Burley Tobacco

I've been growing my own Burley tobacco for about 5 or 6 years now and I make my own loose leaf chew with it. This year, I tired a Kelly Burley variety from a guy known as The Tobacco Guy on Etsy. The germination in trays in my window sills was probably 100% and the plants were very vigorous...

A Fine Time For Fine Wine

Well, I would be remiss if I didn't make this post today. :) It's wine season and I was at Gino's in Hammonton this morning stocking up on Barbera. 36 gallons again this year. No yeast, just the sludge in the bottom of the buckets. 36 gallons seems like the magic number for the last few years...

    Chigged!

I agree Guy, knee-high boots would have helped. My mistake was not expecting them in the type of woods I was in. The mosquito population was literally the worst I have ever seen. That was another anomaly about this place. Very upland and very dry, but with Asian Tigers, that doesn’t seem to matter.
