I took "cover up" to mean "hide". In other words, the smell of DEET overwhelms their receptors so that they just smell it and not you. But if you want to challenge Sue's knowledge of insecticides... I know which side of that bet I'd take! :D

I never had a reaction to DEET (that I recall), but I just don't like the smell or feeling of it on my skin and don't use it.

There must be a number of other body parts used to describe topography.... arm, knee, foot, ankle, heel, hand, elbow, gut, throat, eye... mouth (like Boca Raton) and no doubt others. :D

Head of River also comes to mind. But the origin of the Tuckahoe River is nowhere near there. I guess they meant this was as far upstream as boats would go?
