    Crowley's Landing boat ramp Closed!

You could launch further down the Mullica in Lower Bank right across from River Road Clam House. I believe you pay right at the clam house.

    Chasing turkey vultures

I saw the dead vultures hanging in the tree tactic employed without success at the Royal Palm Visitor's Center parking lot in Everglades National Park. The Black Vultures - Coragyps atratus - there have developed a taste for windshield and sunroof gaskets and can do an incredible amount of...

    Big Guns and Turbine Whine

I was a Range Rat back in the days of general admittance for the public. One day the tower called to the F-4 Phantoms that were using the range and told them that there were a few folks with (then ancient tech!) video cameras. They said if they had enough fuel after their gun/bomb runs they...

Green Bank Inn... closed for good.

I remember hearing a tale of an infamous contest involving *ahem* .... bodily functions and distance that was held one night at the Green Bank Inn. All were surprised that the winning attempt was not achieved by the gender incorrectly assumed to be most capable of such an astounding feat!!

5 Rockets to Light Up US East Coast Sky Tonight

It's been postponed so many times now I've lost count! The latest reason is because of a boat down range in the safety zone that would not move or respond to hailings on the radio. It looks like Sunday the 25th into the morning of the 26th is the next launch window.

Vintage glass reflect Pine Barrens past

"On some of them you can feel the glassblower's thumbprint, from where he pulled [the bottle] off the stick," he notes. "Sometimes you can see an air bubble - that's his breath - in the glass." He may be an artist but from these quotes excerpted from the linked article he doesn't know a thing...

    Davenport Road

Not sure if it's the same area, but there is an article about the Hovnanian Sanctuary in the latest issue of NJ Audubon Magazine Winter 2011 - 12 that just arrived in my mailbox a day or so ago. In their words form the article: "The project aims to restore approximity 300 acres of forest to a...

    Tucker's Isle

OK ...Issues of your non compliant nature are an entirely different thing than Forsythe lacking and closing the trails as you orginally complained - LOL!!. I just wanted to be sure you were writing about the right place as the statments you wrote did not sound like the refuge I enjoy and know...

    Tucker's Isle

manumuskin - Is this concerning Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge??? "When I first went there more areas were open for hiking. Now there is one short trail and if you ain't on that trail your in the wrong place." Because I'm not aware of any areas that had been open to foot traffic in the past...

I pulled a car out of the sand this morning.

I've pulled a number out over the years myself. I always have a hard time on new vehicles, esp. when they're buried deep, trying to figure out where to attach the hook. There's so much plastic, I'm afraid I'll end up with half a car behind me!!
