    Garvey races are back

Erik - I was away on a lengthy vacation and did not come across your posting until today. Steve Adams and Bill Irving of the ECBRC would be able to provide you with a wealth of info and history. Bill had one of, if not THE, first all fiberglass racing garveys and Steve is the current president...

    GPS Newbie

Used a GPS extensively for the first time while on vacation. The wife really liked it and wants to get one. Any opinions out there re: Garmin vs. TomTom vs. ???? In reviews, I read a lot about annoying ads that come up on Garmin devices as a "user fee" for free traffic updates. I know I would...

    Forest clearing in New Jersey

The "they" that erected the Eastern Bluebird boxes at Batsto and MANY other successful Bluebird trails and monitored them for years was Mike O'Brien of the Atlantic Audubon Society. From what I understand, the tree cutting at this time was done in response to a "use it or lose it" time limit on...

    Garvey races are back

I still remember the the one "winging" and going well into the woods at Lake Lenape, Mays Landing. Another time, as a kid out with my Dad at the Ship Bottom races, JS-008 "Daddy's Honey" got WAY up in the air, came down hard with a huge splash, when the spray died down all that was to be seen...

Egg Harbor Man Bitten By Rattlesnake

These stories always have a "I was only trying to____________" factor when the story first starts out. Then you get the details about what really enabled the rattler to strike.

    Garvey races are back

I've seen that JS many times over the years. I love the APBA sanctioned events because they tend to attract a large entry of skiffs sometimes necessitating a number of heats before the final. The APBA skiffs are all "cage" boats with the driver and rider strapped in, protected from behind by a cage.

    Garvey races are back

I belong to NEITHER group but both talk to me frequently. I am a fan that has watched these races since the early 1960's. As far as having nothing but my comments to go on, the postings I mentioned are very easily found and disturbing to say the least if one has the slightest trace of a sense of...

    Garvey races are back

I had no doubt that your photo was from an ECRBC event since no other garvey racing organization was staging races at that time. So, if I get what you're saying right, to you it doesn't matter that one organization illegally uses a registered name, splits up a historic racing club, and posts...

    Garvey races are back

This is NOT the first race. It is the first race held by the breakaway organization using the name Jersey Outlaws. The orginal (mid 1950's) club , The East Coast Boat Racing Club that evolved from the old New Jersey Speed Garvey Racing Association held a race eariler in the year at Ship Bottom...

    Did you know

Aside from the lack of trackside photographers and marshalls, the one involving the second Audi driven by Mike Rockenfeller was even scarier. I've met Mike a number of times at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and thought I was going to get sick when they showed what was left of his car. Amazingly...

    Free Fishing This Weekend

I was talking to some out-of-towners at River Road Clam House in Lower Bank. One of them asked me where the salt /fresh water dividing line was where you didn't need to have a NJ freshwater license. I wasn't sure and it raised another question - if you are fishing outside the freshwater license...

Washington Twp. cracks down on illegal ATV riders

Other states It's interesting when this problem comes up, you can always count on someone writing something like: "In (insert any state but NJ) they have places for people to ride so they don't destroy sensitive areas. When NJ fulfills it's promise to build the ATV parks the problem will stop"...

    Recommend a Shotgun

870 Another vote for the Model 870™ Express® Tactical. And remember, smaller shot at close, home defense ranges, has great stopping power and decreases the danger of excessive wall penetration lessening the chance of striking unintended targets in the house.

    Some winter birds

Rwb Wonderful photos! I've had Red winged blackbirds at my feeder all winter and had them on both the Oceanville and Marmora Christmas Bird Counts.

    6 soft-shell turtles rescued from N.J. roadside

Is the species pictured in the article even the same one that lives in the American south? It looks to have a shorter snout and appears to have some kind of facial markings. I am not a turtle expert at all, but these things jumped out at me based on photos I've taken in the Everglades like this...

    2010 State Raptor reports

"They come out frontwards" I am down there at least twice a week during Hawk Mirgation (Sept -> Dec) and have watched and photographed many banding demos. I have NEVER seen a raptor of any species removed from the cans "frontwards", but always by grasping the legs just above the talons. In the...

    Hot summer evening bike ride

NJ and possible North American record? It is very important that this sighting of a Blue Crane be written up and submitted the the NJ Bird Records Comm. It is very possibly a North American record! As the administrator of the site, I assume you have enough knowledge of NJ birds not to be...
