Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

I've been surprised about how low the humidity has been - until this weekend. Aside from that, I saw humidity readings between 30 to 50% each day last week. Along with a nice breeze, those days in the 90's were really quite pleasant around here. I remember it was only 34% the day before the...

The space shuttle first flew in 1981 (and was retired in 2011), maybe not so different in terms of technology from your old truck. :D Although I understand your point, it's interesting you would pick that as an example of current technology. New vehicles make extensive use of touchscreens, which...

You're a lucky man! But this also reminds me of an old joke (sorry)... Guy #1: "I just got a 1997 F-350 for my wife." Guy #2: "Sounds like a good trade." :D

Yeah, storms moving through Burlington County now. Nice and sunny here right now, going to head out again for another walk before the stuff down in Baltimore makes it to me. :)

I agree that the readability of the new topo maps is poor. But contours lines are a lousy source of elevation data in today's world. They are just approximations of elevation based on estimates. The elevation data used to create the contours on the legacy 24k maps is very low resolution by...

This is the highest severe weather risk (orange) that we've seen for awhile. :siren:

I am not impressed with the new US Topo maps either, to put it nicely. But, according to the USGS, they stopped making legacy 24k maps in 1992 and stopped revising them in 2006. I can understand how that only seems like "several years" when you're driving a 25 year old truck though. :D (sorry...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Don't know how much rain we got overnight, but it appears to be a lot. Slept through it all, so guessing it was slow and steady? But all the puddles that have been bone dry for the past week or two are now re-filled. This is a big one in Peaslee that was dry yesterday. I think the middle is over...

This is probably it (evidently a common problem, found it with a Google search). If you have the "Transit" or "Biking" layer selected, route numbers don't show. I guess it was defaulting to that for some reason (screenshot looks more like the Biking layer). That's a new one for me. :clint:

OK, that's weird. Now it shows the names. :ninja: Wonder why they weren't showing before? That's why I posted, I thought it was something new because I'm sure I've seen names (like this) in the past.

I'm just looking at the link I posted above in Safari on my Mac. https://www.google.com/maps/@41.3156125,-74.1204245,14z?entry=ttu Maybe it shows more names with other browsers or on Windows?

Have you noticed a lack of road labels on Google maps recently? I don't use them all that often, but am working on my own streetmaps of the Northeast US right now and wanted to compare some things. Here's an example of the problem: there are some pretty major roads here.... what are they? No...

They changed their site and the old advanced precipitation analysis page is no longer there. Kinda sucks, since I developed my own procedure for extracting data from the old version, and now it's gone. :( I couldn't get the new site to work either yesterday, but found this rainfall monitor here...

Similar to the last storm, but less rain all around.

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Judging from the very small amount of water in my wheelbarrow (usually a pretty accurate gauge) I had about 1/10 inch here. Couldn't have been much of a storm, I slept through it all and never heard a thing. Not enough to fill any puddles but it did wet the ground and bring down the dust for a...

Haha, no idea. Looks to be pounding Philadelphia now. The part that could hit me is still in Maryland.

Interesting change to the forecast, for Wharton they're estimating a 70% chance of between 3/4 to 1 inch of rain (only 1/2 to 3/4 inch farther South where I am). But forecast now only mentions 5 to 10 mph winds with no gusts and there's no severe thunderstorm warning (yet). Of course, that could...
