Saw Mill Ruins Near Hawkins Bridge

I think you must be remembering a very old Garmin map? I looked as far back as 2012 and didn't see that sawmill on any of my maps. However, when I made my first map of the Pines around 2008, Guy gave me a select list of POI's to include and I recall there were some sawmills on it. Can't find...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Apparently, it could change rather quickly. Note the "rapid onset drought risk" shaded area that includes Southern NJ. :siren:

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Haven't gone out yet, but looks completely dry and I didn't hear any rain all night. [edit]Apparently there was some light rain overnight. Just enough to partially moisten the ground, at least it cut down on the dust. But it will quickly dry out in the heat of the day.

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Not a drop here either. One big system passed to the North and another to the South. There's more on the way though.

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Warm out there in the sun today, but a nice breeze was refreshing, especially in the shade. :) May get a little rain tomorrow night, looks like the severe weather will be North and West of the Pines. It is certainly not anywhere near drought conditions around my place, still very respectable...

    Gritty in Wharton

"... the important thing is, he's reached such a high level of recognition that even people who don't follow hockey probably know him and love him." First time I ever heard of him and not loving him. ;) Didn't watch the video, but was it filmed on public land (like a state forest)? If so, I...

Pine Barrens Witch, Margaret "Peggy" Clevenger

First... welcome to the site Debbie! :) This appears to be the post in question: https://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/poor-peggy-clevenger-murder-or-just-an-accident.8303/#post-99454 I agree with Jerseyman, his post seemed sympathetic to Peggy and it pushed back on the notion that she was...

    Northeast US OpenTopoMap now available

Have just added a local version of OpenTopoMap to match the Northeast LIDAR coverage area https://boydsmaps.com/#12.00/45.904324/-68.921418/usopentopo/0.00/0.00 These are the exact same map tiles available from the OpenTopoMap website, but they load much faster. Their servers are very slow...

New Windows 11 AI feature: "one of the most ridiculous security failings I’ve ever seen"

Not really, as I said... Pretty much all of my data is stored in their cloud. But it's encrypted, so it would be very difficult for anyone to do anything with it. But I don't use the cloud as a primary storage medium. For example, Google Chromebooks have almost no storage built-in and...

New Windows 11 AI feature: "one of the most ridiculous security failings I’ve ever seen"

What is your definition of "the cloud"? Because I think it just describes a computing infrastructure where data is spread (and probably replicated) over a network on devices in different places. This differs from traditional storage where you can specifically say that your data is stored on...

New Windows 11 AI feature: "one of the most ridiculous security failings I’ve ever seen"

Tech companies are really getting carried away with new AI-enabled features. This new "recall" feature is really crazy, it basically keeps a record of everything you do and stores it in an unencryped database on your PC. I guess it would be a bonanza for hackers and forensic experts looking for...

You can get basic property ownership and other data from my pinesXT app. Choose any map you like, this one shows parcel boundaries with public openspace shaded green, for example. https://boydsmaps.com/pines/#15/39.757458/-74.418158/lightstreets/0/0/ Here's aerial imagery with property lines...

    Tabernacle Mayor

Wear it as a badge of honor - after all, the term "moron" was invented by our own Henry H. Goddard of the Vineland Training School! But seriously, when I read what the deputy mayor said, I thought it might have actually been a quote from Goddard. I hoped we had moved beyond his theories long ago.

    Russel's Crossing

Sorry, not familiar with Russel's Crossing and not sure where it is, can you post a link from my map? I updated it at the end of last year and tried to include all the roads from the legacy USGS 24k topo's plus newer roads from aerial and LIDAR imagery (shown in a purple-ish color)...

    Tabernacle Mayor

Apparently, in this case there was only one evil. :D "Natalie Stone won an uncontested election and was sworn into office in January as Tabernacle's deputy mayor." BTW, this thread title is misleading. According to the linked article, she is the deputy mayor, not the mayor.
