    Moon today?

Sorry I missed that early morning moon last month, but I'm just going to piggyback on this thread instead of starting a new one if you don't mind. :) Beautiful moon this evening, a thin crescent "cup". Just a couple quick handheld shots out back with my three year old iPhone, right from the...

It's a little hard to nail that number down. I see 150 IP addresses being used in the last 24 hours but not likely those are all actually different (real) people. To answer that question, I would need to identify users with some kind of data stored on their devices (such as cookies) and I don't...

Switched to a bold font, solid black background and brighter green. Also made the selected map monochrome. I find this much more readable, but now that I've re-written the relevant code it will be pretty easy to tweak further if needed. Still have almost two hours left of a big 10-hour map tile...

Yeah, I agree that the colors could be improved. My focus was just getting all the major changes online, but I will have another look at this now, the colors need more contrast.

    Wind Advisory

Some of the gusts have been pretty scary. Not a good day for a walk in the woods. :( Power flickered a few times last night but didn't go out. I have to give props to Atlantic City Electric. For the past few weeks there have been convoys of Asplundh trucks trimming trees around the power lines...

    Pine Barren History Shorts

Very cool, I have wondered about Butler Place before. The 1949 USGS topo shows the recreation area but doesn't have the Butler Place name, so I never quite made the connection before. But the other historic topo's show the name as Butler's Place. Somehow that got shortened to just Butler...

New Jersey officials seeking live-in caretaker for historic tavern

Some old threads. There are a few photos and a couple more in articles that are linked to. Unfortunately, lots of broken links in the older threads. https://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/cedar-bridge-tavern-1938-and-today.3192/...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

We had a lot of rain here yesterday, was out around 2:00 PM and roads were flooding in the Mays Landing area. Looking better this morning (so far). The rain this weekend might not be as bad as they were suggesting before.

That wouldn't surprise me. If this was the plan, IMO it would have been better left un-said...

    LIDAR coverage expansion in progress

A major expansion of the mid-atlantic LIDAR map is currently underway. This is a huge project that I've been working on for months. Right now, the bottleneck is the amount of rendering time required, my computer is processing data 24/7 and it's going to take two or three more weeks before I'm...

That sounds like the place in Al's link above. That building on the map has always fascinated me, have meant to check it out for years but never get around to it. https://boydsmaps.com/#15.00/39.414158/-74.908667/pines2023/0.00/0.00 It shows on the 24k legacy topo but not the 1930's aerials...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Yeah, those numbers seem to be on the low side of the individual forecasts. They are predicting between 1.5" and 2.75" for my area today but the total on that map for the whole week is 2" to 3". Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Interesting that Cook, Vermeule and the USGS all called it "Manantico" in the 19th century. Then, after that it disappears from the map.
