    Yellow

I was planning to do just that for the next two weeks. I know of two locations, but I'm going to check out another possible spot. Stopping by one of the known locations back on 7/14, the orchid looked like this.....

    Road Closures

Not very road had a sign. Even 10 years ago, they were very old, and you had to look hard even to notice them. They were made out of wood and attached to trees. That's why I said, historically.

    Road Closures

When I started exploring the Pines 10 years old, there were old No Motor Access signs along Glossy Spung Rd on the roads leading toward the Batsto. So, historically, motor vehicles weren't permitted on those roads for a long time.

    Pine Barren History Shorts

Guy; thanks for the hard work and the time your spent compiling all that information. It was greatly appreciated. I hope others found it interesting as well. I was aware that he built the house at 602 Park Ave, but I didn't know he lived there. It is on the corner of Park Ave and Lakeview...

    Pine Barren History Shorts

Having been raised in Collingswood during the 50's through the early 60's attending their public schools from K to 12, even though I lived in Haddon Twp all my life, sparked some interesting in Andrew K. H. Douchty. With a little googling. I found that he built the town's first Methodist Church...

    What is this symbol?

I'm going with dam. The current symbol for dam is a dark solid line going across a body of water (stream) where the body of water appears to look wider on one side then the other. The 'comb-like' symbol only appears on the 1942 topo. The other topo maps have the solid dark line. If you look...

    Pine Barrens Fishing Question

For the past 12 years I exclusively fish abandoned cranberry bogs. I only have a very limited time early in the season before the bogs get choked out with Fragrant Water-Lilies and other vegetation. I have only pulled out Chain Pickerel, strictly using artificial. Yellow Bullheads and Brown...

    Two From Today

Here's one from this past week. While hiking to one of my favorite spots in Wharton, I saw two Imperial Moths mating.

    Storm

Guy. not much here in Westmont. Just some rain and little wind. Maybe the ground was so saturated it help bring the tree down, unless you had a worst storm.

    Storm

I just got a storm alert on my cell about 10 minutes ago. Right now it is very dark, some thunder and lightning, but no heavy winds or rain, as we got at 12:30 today, I'm located in Haddon Township (Westmont), between Collingswood and Haddonfield. Right now it is even darker like night time...

    CLOSED

I've been in the Pines once per week in the past four weeks. I too only explore remote places. During my four weekday trips, I only saw 3 vehicles and one person, and that's when I was driving. Two of those trips were down Carranza Road and another two past miles past Friendship to the lower...

    Isolation 2020

I have 7 grandkids; 3 in Maryland, 2 in Georgia, and 2 granddaughter just around the corner from me. I stopped there at the end my run this morning just to let them know that Grandpa loves them. My wife speaks to some of them by using Messenger on Facebook. The kids (I'm not a techy) can super...

    Isolation 2020

Bob; probably all the stores in Forked River were out of toilet paper and bread. Or they heard about the special senior hours.

    Isolation 2020

Bob; I have to drive RT 70 all the time I go to the Pines through Cherry Hill. I go during the weekdays, so everyone is going the opposite direction. At this time of year though, the low sun is brutal. I also plan to leave the Pines before the afternoon traffic builds up.

    Isolation 2020

Bob; I believe you went the wrong way on Lacey Rd to do your grocery shopping. Almost everyone in Whiting is over 60. Go into Forked River or better yet, drive down to the ShopRite on RT 9 in Waretown. I got 7 grandkids, but only 2 local, just around the corner from me. I have been seeing...

    Isolating in the Pines

Toothy Critter. This is what I was doing in the Pines last week. This is the time of the year to fish the old cranberry bogs and reservoirs before they get choked with Fragrant White Lilies. Here's another photo I like to share that I came across while picking out the ones above. I ID'd...

    Isolating in the Pines

I went down to the Pines last Wednesday. Passing the North and South Gate of FPP, the lots were full. Where I went, four different places, I didn't see a sole or vehicle. That's nothing different then any other time I go. Being retired, I only go on weekdays. Wanna get away...…. Here's a...

    Pine Barren History Shorts

The address for Montgomery Farms is 257 Carranza Road. However, its homestead is 0.22 miles off of Carranza.. It could be the road leading to the farm house.

    Where is this?

Back on July 21, 2019 on Post 1629, Bob showed the location of 'The High Bridge' on a 1930 map for anyone to guess its location. With much luck I found it quite quickly. At the time, I didn't post the find so to give someone else the opportunity. It doesn't appear that happened. It is located...
