    Moon

The moon just keeps on crankin' ! I walked back to the bogs near my house without a light this morning in search of wayward waterfowl. No takers. Two extended bow hunters were in their stands and no youts to be found. This was a twenty five minutes before sunrise.

    Constable Bridge

Here is a link to a hike I organized with PBX back in 2008 around those bogs. Most of the picture links are dead but Teegate's photos still live on !! https://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/the-bog-slog-a-pbx-hike.5029/#post-55385

    Constable Bridge

Constable Bridge is under the cursor on the map in the attached Boyd's Maps link. If you toggle through the various maps, you will see that the bogs to the north and west, known as Constable Bogs, were there at least as far back as 1885 according to Cook's Map. The amount of work it took to...

Youth Firearm Dear Day This Saturday

I wouldn't say most people Guy, I would say people who don't pay attention. The early youth firearm deer hunts started 26 years ago in 1995.

Youth Firearm Dear Day This Saturday

100% safe. One of the best things that NJF&W has ever done for kids. Our Club hosted a 2 day event for the 1 day Youth Turkey last spring and it was awesome. Friday night was instruction, food and guest speakers. Saturday was the hunt and more food and awards.

    Fall Colors, A PBX Hike.

Yes Bob, for sure. Monica and I stopped to photograph it and we both concluded Lion's Mane based on the visual only. Neither of us are fungus experts. The Lion's Mane is supoosed to taste like lobster ! I wish I was more confident in edible fungus ID but the potentially fatal consequences of a...

    Fall Colors, A PBX Hike.

This the most spiritually refreshing hike the PBX group has ever had, in my not so humble opinion. We have not been together as a group since October 2019 and I have have sorely missed the camaraderie, jocularity and the education that I have received on every single hike in which I have...

    Fall/Winter Stone Searching 2021/2022

Looks like the survey only calls for the beginning stake Guy. Were you able to review any deeds for calls for markers at any of the other corners ?

A Fine Time For Fine Wine

Nice work Ben. It's great to see another successful apprentice ! The yeast must have been voracious to chew up 2lbs of sugar in 6 days. I had the same experience this year, I am going to rack next weekend, stabilize and back sweeten as well.

Driving thru the Pine Barrens in May 1975 in my '75 Subaru

Amazingly, the place you visited is the same today.

    Boogars

Well now that I have your attention, :) I want to tell you a little about the Boogars of Waterford. I was helping an old friend of mine complete his application package for several variances for the construction of a pole barn down here and we got to talking about local history. I have lived in...

Weird finds in weird New Jersey!

Brine tanks was my first guess. A local driller/pump installer might have had a stockpile of used ones to get rid of or maybe he went out of business and trashed his stock. Old fiberglass is worthless and is next to impossible to recycle. The late Kenny Brittain from Wheels and Keels in Atco...

    Pine Barren History Shorts

Now I can finally say I know someone who is related to Honest Abe ! This guy pictured here is as close as I could get. He is a very good friend of mine from the area that I deer hunt in Bradford County PA. Only left the house in which he was born in in PA a few times, once was to go fishing on...

    Along The Albertson Branch

You just jinxed yourself. I respectfully ask you to wait for a nice, warm day, any time after October 15 and take a leisurely walk through the area around the target symbol. Please do not use any bug spray, so as not to bias the results. Please report back if you dare. :)...

    Along The Albertson Branch

The worst chigger infestation I ever experienced was right where you were. We went there to run Murphy one fall day. We cut him loose and he ranged ahead of us for a few minutes and when he came back his normally white chest was red with chiggers. He looked like he was sprayed lightly with...

    Along The Albertson Branch

No we were in the upper reaches across the road from my house. My wife and I were both chigged really good two weeks ago and we didn’t want to get our grandson his first dose. :) We walked the roads only downstream from the bogs.
