    something gross in my garden

Check out these 2 pics my wife took of our front garden. 1 area with yellow mustard looking crap and another larger spot of what looks like vomit nearby. Appeared overnight just after the rain we just had. Any idea what it is? On another note, I noticed a bird sitting in my yard hardly...

    another "what is this area"?

Gibby's map link is the place I am referring to. I will take a short trip out there and see what I can find.

    another "what is this area"?

Boyd, forgive me for not posting the coordinates. In case this was a sensitive area, I wanted to make the coordinates somewhat tough to track down. I posted a pic of the map but now that I look at it, it doesn't show enough for anyone to figure it out. The road shown on the map is Hammonton...

    another "what is this area"?

Drove from Tuckerton to Hammonton yesterday morning. Hardly passed another soul on a warm Sunday morning through the Pines. Passed by the Ives branch and noticed a small cleared area on the state forest side with a sand trail headed into the woods. Looked it up when I got home and noticed an...

    finally... moved to the pines

Ok, I am having a problem with tiny black ants. They are all over my kitchen. I used a pesticide spray that I have been successfully using for years - but to no avail. It is a barrier style spray that normally lasts 12 months. The ants just keep coming. Any suggestions?

    finally... moved to the pines

After growing up in South Jersey all my life and always living on the outskirts of the Pines, I finally moved to the Pines! Just purchased a house in Tuckerton and moved in this past weekend. Looking forward to future explorations and hikes.

    Matlack superfund site

http://www.nj.com/gloucester-county/index.ssf/2013/05/epa_adds_woolwich_townships_ma.html#incart_river Good that this site will receive money to be cleaned up properly. It is really a shame about this site (and adjacent Sprute Plantation). Full of early settler history but is basically...

Cool find in Egg Harbor City

Was detained by Galloway Twp police many years ago for exploring this monument. A very interesting site just be careful about trespassing.

    bald eagles

Just wanted to share some brief bald eagle sightings in the past month: About 1 month ago I spotted a Bald Eagle soaring above a farm field near the Municipal Complex in Burlington Twp on Little Oxmead Rd. On Monday evening I spotted a Bald Eagle soaring high above the train bridge on Mantua...

    Chasing turkey vultures

Didn't something like this happen in Egg Harbor City many years back and the vultures were ruining the water tower?

    1876 map lithos

Too bad Paulsboro is not included in this set but the West Deptford map is definitely my favorite. It's funny because in a previous post from 2011, I asked about the Moore Farm in Parkeville and in your reply to me, you mentioned the same 1876 atlas. Glad to own such a useful source of...

    1876 map lithos

Just picked up these 3 map lithographs. These come from the Combination Atlas Map of Salem and Gloucester County by Everts & Stewart, 1876. 1. Gloucester County (1 sided) 2a. West Deptford, side 1 2b. Deptford, side 2 3a. Mantua, side 1 3b. Ewansville, Clarksboro, Jefferson, and...

    salisbury farm

"I am currently preparing two National Register nominations for disparate groups". Is one of these the Paul House? I know an archaeological survey recently turned up a fairly significant amount of evidence. The rehab work going on there seems to have stopped suddenly soon after the press...

    salisbury farm

Interesting, as the Grand Sprute is not on the list yet it also has significance with early settlers/native inhabitants. It is also only just up the road, basically on the same creek.

    salisbury farm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salisbury_Farm_(Bridgeport,_New_Jersey) Looking for some information regarding the Salisbury Farm site in Bridgeport. It is on the NRHP but the listing is very vague and provides no details. Why was the site placed on the list? What is significant about it?

    Riding in the Pines

If I recall, there was a chapter in one of Beck's books with a similar concept in Smithville, right?

    Hey! Look what I found

Any chance the pics could be reposted for those of us who misssed this the first time around?

    who knew?

Ok so when I was looking at the old atlas I noticed something odd. This atlas shows a graveyard where there is currently a tank farm (Paulsboro on Mantua Creek). What would have happened to the graveyard?

    who knew?

Edit: Ok, I checked an atlas for the area and I figured it out. Looks like they cut clear through where the house would have stood when they put in an exit off I-295 in the 1995 aerials.
