    Hessian Burials

since this thread is, at least on one level, about dead Hessians, I thought I'd provide a link to a few of their maps. http://www.westjerseyhistory.org/maps/revwarmaps/hessianmaps/ The map files, particularly those whose description begins with the words "large scale" are pretty big...

    The Stone Hills

Guy You, as usual, are correct. I tend to be old fashioned and prefer threads to stay fairly close to their original topic. So, I'll be getting around to a new thread soon. Thanks relayer

    The Stone Hills

Wow, and I just thought I was making a harmless joke to transition between the post about the bricks and my response to a query about my location. Still. I'll take all the help I can get. I evidently need it. Now, however I may feel, an interesting topic has been raised. Since this thread...

    The Stone Hills

Don't move the bricks? Uh-oh...Still, the new patio and rock garden look really cool. Anyway, no river on my map, just an unnamed run that surveyers refer to as Drainage Easement. relayer

    Rt.55

I got some interesting email regarding my post on this topic. Perhaps I was a bit over the top. One email, sent by a friend who, as far as I know, is not a member here, and who has a rather more positive view of why public works get funded and worked on than I, contained some useful links to...

    Rt.55

hmmm....As originally planned eh? From what I've heard 55 was an obscenely expensive pork barrel project to cater to the whims of some very wealthy, influential folks in the Millville/Vineland area who wanted their neck of the woods more open to development. One told a friend of mine something...

    The Stone Hills

I was sorting through some old emails and came on this in a note from Ed Fox. If you pick up George Flemming's book Brotherton and turn to pages 181 and 182, you will find the following in a discussion about Hampton Gate: "The [Hampton] Gate Tavern was at the base of a series of hills...

White Stag or The Black Doctor

Here I am again. Replying to yet another ancient thread. Just can't help myself I guess. The White Stag (or White Hart) came to this country on the ships that brought emmigrants from the British Isles and Northern Europe. Unlike the other livestock, however, the White Stag made the trip in...

    New Map

As some of you doubtless noticed, the top third of the map image is blurred. I contacted the LOC about it and checking the scan themselves, they found that there was indeed a problem. They are going to re-scan the map (sorry, they didn't say when) so that it is all in focus. Our tax dollars...

    Dixontown?

I've seen Dixontown Road and have driven on it. I've looked at maps of the area. I checked Bisbee's Sign Posts. I'm still not sure where Dixontown was/is and what it was. Would anyone have some ideas about this? Thanks
