    Pinelands Fishing sites recommendations.

I fixed a problem with your link. When posting youtube links, all you should need to do is paste them into your post and the forum software will take care of everything. No need to use the link button. As for the video, it reminded me of why I stopped using youtube. Only watched the first few...

Where is the OLDEST habited area of the Pinelands?

Over the years I've driven all over Gloucester County on my way to someplace else, but never really knew much about it. Just found this page while looking for more info on that cabin (confirms it is privately-owned, which surprised me). Lots of other interesting info about early settlers here...

Where is the OLDEST habited area of the Pinelands?

I have driven past this cabin in Swedesboro a number of times and always thought it looked pretty cool, apparently it dates from 1654 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortonson–Van_Leer_Log_Cabin [edit]Also see the link for the oldest buildings in NJ on that same page. :)

Where is the OLDEST habited area of the Pinelands?

I have a book, "A Geography of New Jersey: The City in the Garden" that has a section on early settlements. There's a little map, but they seem to be around the edges of the Pines and not in the middle. Some that are shown are Burlington (1678) Coopers Ferry (1681) Fort Nassau (1626) Raccoon...

    Rural Development Zone - Pinelands

I don't really know anything about this, but the links in my old post on page one don't work anymore. Here are new links to the area in Guy's screenshot on the first page, FWIW 2012 https://boydsmaps.com/#15.00/39.753739/-74.508556/pines2012/0.00/0.00 2015...

Expanded NAIP aerials coverage is now available

Have just finished updating the aerials from the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) to match the coverage area of the Northeast US LIDAR map. And, just to keep you confused, I've changed the name of this map to reflect that it's a companion to the LIDAR - they are now called "Northeast...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

If this is right, we should be OK in the Pines, but areas to the Northwest could have some issues.

Any plans for next April's total solar eclipse?

I know I've been really cynical in this thread, but that's just my cranky nature. I think it's great that you found it to be such a moving experience and hope that the others who went on a trip to view the eclipse had clear skies and good times. I enjoyed your reports!

Any plans for next April's total solar eclipse?

Yeah, it really didn't get very dark, no more than a cloudy day. I think the last eclipse was darker here. I was in my woods, out back. The dark clouds rolled in on cue, right at the peak of the eclipse. But before they did, I was really struck by how crisp all the shadows were, due to the...

Any plans for next April's total solar eclipse?

Actually, I would say just the opposite - the cloud cover made it possible to get some interesting pix with my phone and I wouldn't have gotten anything on a clear day. These were shot on my iPhone 12 Pro Max with no filter, handheld, no editing. Not great art, but I like the clouds in the...

Any plans for next April's total solar eclipse?

Just another day, will be out wandering around the woods as usual and see what the effect is here. Don't have any of them "eclipse glasses", but I might put on my Count Floyd 3d Glasses™ and watch Doctor Tongue's 3d House of Stewardesses!

    Mount Misery Road

Exactly what road is that? Apparently it is here, but are they talking about the section of Mt. Misery road Northwest of Rt 70 (don't know that road, is it even paved)? That is about 3.3 miles long. Why would they spend money on that? Seems more likely they're talking about the L-shaped...

    Flooded Roads

Decided to check things out in Peaslee today for the first time since the big rains. Tried two different roads that are normally very dry, but there was major flooding I didn't want to drive through within a hundred feet from where the roads left the pavement, so I just gave up. Could be awhile...

    4.8 earthquake. I felt it.

Apparently there have been multiple aftershocks. Did not notice any here but was doing housecleaning with the vacuum cleaner running. :) https://pix11.com/news/local-news/new-jersey/2-aftershocks-reported-near-epicenter-of-new-jersey-earthquake/...

    4.8 earthquake. I felt it.

The link I posted above lists a bunch of USGS products, including the shake map https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000ma74/executive Very different from 2011 for me. Back then, I happened to be standing at the end of a long straight hall in my home. I literally saw the...
