At the edge of a gravel pit, might have been bulldozed into a line to form a barrier. Or perhaps it's the spoils dumped there after they extracted whatever they were digging for? Would take a lot of time and erosion to wear that feature down to anything near the size of the one in the OP. :)

The snow line is moving Southeast. I checked the New York City forecast yesterday and it was zero to two inches of snow, but now they're forecasting six inches in the city - quite a change! Nothing that dramatic for us in the pines though. But they say there's a 0% chance of the Pines...

Good catch, I did not connect that before. So, Andrews Road is called "Old Schmung Road" on the 1949 map. "Old North Green Street Road" (quite mouth full!) is also on the 24k topo. This sort of makes me think that it's just a different spelling of "Shamong" and the current location of Shamong...
