    Lenape Canoe Company

I posted this elsewhere in the forum, but thought it might be a good New Thread posting. Does anyone remember the Lenape Canoe Company in Medford? I bought a 15ft. Lenape Chief in 1971 for $150, heavy fiberglass with a riveted in place aluminum keel and wood seats. It weighed 85 lbs. but it...

    My that's a large spider

A Spider Story My friend Tom is a big, strapping, weight lifter who has just one fear: spiders. Years ago we were canoeing a pine-barrens river, he in the bow and me in the stern, when we came to a deadfall that cleared the stream enough to allow the canoe to go under it if we layed back and...

    15" aluminum canoe

Lenape Chief Does anyone remember the Lenape Canoe Company in Medford? I bought a 15 ft. Lenape Chief in 1971 for $150, heavy fiberglass with a riveted in place aluminum keel and wood seats. It weighed 85 lbs. but it was an awesome boat. Somebody stole it from my sisters backyard in Brooklawn...

    Bub's big fishing expo

Where? Being a fellow fisherman, I might be treading in taboo waters, but are you willing to say where you were fishing? I understand if you want to keep the location a secret. Beautiful memories there, my friend!

Have ticks always been a problem?

Deer Ticks 35 years ago I never heard of deer ticks let alone saw one. Wood ticks were common and you went out in the woods protected. Here in Florida, the winters are VERY mild, with the exception of rare days in the 40-50's, you're going to see ticks as the day warms. I heard that Guinea Hens...

    Friday Ride

Ipecac Learn something new everyday. I did not know this plant occured in the PB's, nor what it looked like. I am sure the Native Peoples knew its purgative effects, eh? The Euphorbia genus is also referred to as "Spurge", which sounds sort of like "purge"; Spurge is characterized by a bitter...

    A Unique Spring

Spring type Do you suspect it is more an "artesian" type spring where water from a higher elevation has found an exit point here, or do you think it has a direct connection to an aquifer? Believe me, I don't understand everything I know, that's why all the questions. Springs are "larger than...

    A Unique Spring

Curious Hi Jeff: I live in Florida, one of the most concentrated regions on the globe when it comes to springs. I live 5 miles from Blue Springs State Park in Orange City, and have enjoyed its pristine, crystal clear, 73 degree waters for swimming and snorkeling many times. Just curious, is...

    On This Memorial Day

Thank-you. Yes, Jerseyman, we should all bow our heads and give thanks for the fallen patriots who went before us to secure our freedom, our peace, our happiness, and our prosperity as a nation. My Great-Uncle Richard Eberhard fell in Torino, Italy during WW2. My father served as a MP in...

    High Tension Line

High Energy Issues I'm wondering if spending a lot of time under those wires can lead to health problems like brain tumors---I recall this was an issue up for discussion in Jersey at one time...well, I guess if you lived under them 24/7...who knows.:clint: For years they talked about that...

    Ice Age Pine Barrens

Thanks! Again, thanks Guy. What an awesome photo! Now these are reminiscent of "Oxbow Lakes", stranded segments of a river which through siltation become separated from the main stream, and become lakes. If there was a river nearby I would suspect that...however, being off-topic, I can see how...

    Graphite Rods

Graphite I found that they are highly conducive to electricity... Yes, graphite is HIGHLY conductive. Anyone who fishes with a graphite fishing rod knows to stow it immediately during an electrical storm! I would suspect these are using for very high voltage. Great photo!

    Ice Age Pine Barrens

Thanks! Hi Guy: That helps. I recall camping at Kettle-Morraine State Park in Wisconsin while I was in the Navy in Illinois. This park had MANY glacial retreat features left from the last ice-age (thus its namesake). These spongs, however, are not as obvious to one unlearned about post-glacial...
