I think you are allowed to handle a snake in NJ if you have a hat like that young woman in the picture in the article.

I think it's a really bad idea for most people (including me!) to handle snakes, but I've never heard of a law against it. Taking a snake from state-managed land home to keep as a pet, for example, would be against the law, I'm pretty sure.

There's a guy I see occasionally at Bass River SF who has this really neat bicycle with super fat tires. He said he bought it just for the trails and sand roads of the Pinelands. It looks nothing like a mountain bike. I'll try to get a picture next time I see him.

The new 2018 Pinelands National Reserve wall calendars are out. I got mine today. They are very nice, with great pictures. (Below is a part of the cover. This is a scan - the original is much better quality.) The Pinelands Commission produces these, and they are free. You can't get them online...

Yes NJ allows hunting up to 1/2 hour after sunset. I was walking in the woods yesterday until around 3:30pm - a full hour before sunset - and it was starting to get dark in there. I expect it would be very dark in that 1/2 hour after sunset. I think the articles say he wasn't charged yet - I...
