'Keep-right' law in N.J. could get even tougher

Mmmm....How is a motorist supposed to get into the right lane - when it is so crowded with aggressive drivers trying to pass on the right ??

    A Seal in Great Bay

I was reminded of this old Scot's folk song.. I am a man upon the land, I am a selkie on the sea, And when I'm far and far frae land, My home it is in Sule Skerrie." And he had ta'en a purse of gold, And he had placed it upon her knee, Saying: "Give it to my little young son, And take thee up...

    Window Watching Notes

Thanks for the info ! I watched - a bit closer - yesterday, and saw some indications of either courthip or territorial domination. A stout robin would hop onto a branch, puff him(?)self up like a Metropolitan tenor, and begin singing/calling. This seemed to create a small stir among the...

    Window Watching Notes

    1. I see large flights of geese (100+) as a regular thing, but ducks ? Two or three at a time-different species, from what I could see. (Wonder why so few ??) 2. Robins never entirely left this winter. (Kept seeing stragglers around-usually loners.) This morning, the trees are "full" of...

Maternal instincts . sense of pack membership, etc. would account for most of it- with human reinforcement filling up the gap. (Most people find it "cute" when a dog plays with an animal that would otherwise be din-din.)

He's a good dog, I'll bet, and I'm sending along a virtual scratch behind the ears - and a real beef chew bone, with a bit of peanut butter on the inside. (Gimmee that bone !)

That was pretty good -and, I'm sure- was greeted with pure rage.

    Not REALLY Raptors...

Thanks to Google, I now know the graceful wind sailors I've been calling "turkey buzzards" are really Turkey Vultures ; and, despite some persistent earlier mis-classification, aren't Raptors either ---but members of the Stork family. (Imagine what kind of baby THEY would deliver !) I mention...

    Hold on to your Hat

Rainy here. Passed wind advisory along to son- hopefully he'll take down the basketball hoop.

    Hold on to your Hat

I would suspect the transition from "hut" to "hat" was a matter of Pinelands humor : a local wag with a following.

Incidentally - (this is NOT a commercial) - I buy strings for my own instruments at a place called : Just Strings. http://www.juststrings.com/ You can pretty much find strings for anything there - or adapt what they have for whatever you play.

    Hold on to your Hat

Back in the day, I offered a set of banjo strings under the "Ong's Hat" label. As I recall, I said something to the effect of ONG, falling asleep under a tree, when the Jersey Devil was up and about. All they found of poor Ong was his hat---and a devilishly good set of banjo strings. (They...

    Hold on to your Hat

Guess I'd better make sure my O2 generators are fully charged. Yeah. They pretty much are, and I have a couple of tanks on standby. Just hope somebody remembers to take down the basketball hoop at the top of the driveway. Last storm out, it landed on a windshield. $$OUCH$$
