Google maps getting dumbed down even more?

Sorry about the hijack Boyd. As you can see, USGS 7.5 minute maps and driving my old trucks are two of my biggest passions. Odd, really.:)

Google maps getting dumbed down even more?

German, I had an '82 F-150 with the 300-inline with a Ford 4-speed manual with overdrive. I sold it to my father-in-law in 1987 and he ran it until he died. We sold it to a local landscaper who ran it for years. My first heavy duty truck was an '87 F-250, also with 300-inline. That truck had...

Man drowns after illegal dip in South Jersey mining lake

My guess is that he broke the legendary rule of no swimming within 15 minutes of eating.

Google maps getting dumbed down even more?

Oh, as for my 27 year-old 1997 F-350, I put her (the truck) to work yesterday along with my wife. This is my wife tooling up 73 yesterday with my baby, a 1997 F-350 to help me do a final cleanout of my sister's house with me. Photo taken from my 22 year-old 2002 F-350 diesel. Hard to find a...

Google maps getting dumbed down even more?

You’re missing my point somewhat, Boyd. Placing a simple key map on a site plan in the old USGS map format was perfect and showed just enough information for the purpose at hand. It didn’t have to be screaming with detail, it just needed to have an informative image and be just a little bit...

Google maps getting dumbed down even more?

I purposely zoomed way out on the newer map to show the dearth of contour labeling. The old maps always gave you road intersection spot elevations too. I’m a dinosaur and I like it !!

Google maps getting dumbed down even more?

27 year old truck. Get it right! :) My issue with the maps is not only the lack of physical detail, but they also thinned out the contour labeling so much that you get lost trying to follow a contour to see what it is. We used to use snippets of USGS maps for our key maps in various land use...

Google maps getting dumbed down even more?

That doesn't bother me nearly as much as what the USGS did to the 7.5 minute quarter-quads several years ago. It's almost criminal. The maps are essentially worthless now.

    Spring/Summer Flora

I found this Nicotiana tobacum growing in orderly rows in my backyard this morning. Odd. I will certainly allow it to thrive until the beautiful pentagonal flowers bloom. :)

    Tabernacle Mayor

She appears to take at least some pride or in her Pinelands home, according to the author of her IMDB bio. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm4883383/bio/?ref_=nmvg_sa_2

    Tabernacle Mayor

"There is ACTUAL TRUTH to Pineys being incestuous, illiterate, mentally deficient, inbred imbeciles supposedly responsible for generations of morons and prostitutes," Stone said on Facebook in 2020. I do a lot of technical writing in my work and the accurate choice of words is very important. I...

    Missing Woman

Very sad. The description of the Wawa is flawed. The Wawa on Route 72 is in Woodland Township. The Wawa in Vincentown is on 206 in Southampton Township, about 8 miles away. The article describes the location as " ...the Wawa on Route 72 in the Vincentown section of Southampton in Burlington...
