    Hurry up, hard frost!

I once was swimming in a Blue Hole in Dividing Creek when i was about ten.I remember a Greenhead biting me in top of my head so I figured I'd just swim under water and he's let loose,He held on,I surfaced three times to breathe and he was still biting me.I finally got fed up and smashed him and...

    Hurry up, hard frost!

I love winter in the barrens. In the summer I try to hang close to swamps.Bushwacking in the heat through waterless terrain is hell.I've done it but their were times I thought I was really going to die in there. In the winter I can go wherever I want with no discomfort, especially if the swamps are...

as soon as you cross 72 you turn left and follow the road for a couple hundred yards and then the trail turns right into the woods as shown on the map above. The old trail is still visible right across the road but is now unblazed and growing in fast.

    Telescoping in the Pine Barrens

Are you referring to the stone by the gun club? Yes we found that one, almost gave up,we were back in the corner closer to the swamp but something told me to head up the edge of the club property back toward the road and we ran right into it. I I know of much darker sites in PA and WV but...

    Telescoping in the Pine Barrens

Belleplain is the noted Dark Sky site for NJ. most folks use the field next to Lake Nummy but you have to have permission to use that field.I know of several state owned fields nearby with high clearance you can access and be left alone.I also know an abandoned blocked off bridge that makes a...

Trails, Inns, and Charcoal Stations of Olde Buena Vista: Little-Known Places

Yes I have noticed ruts melt first the same way the base of trees melt off.I figured it was because of residual heat in the earth whereas any snow jacked up off the ground by vegetation would not be affected by the warmth.I have also noticed that even in cloudy weather the south side of trees...
