it may be too far for you Gibby depending on location but the Belleplain area is noted for the darkest night skies in south jersey which of course still aren't that good.for really good skies you have to head to northern pa or wv.

I'd say racer by the smooth scales and head scalation also no postocuar stripe.without a belly shot I may be wrong but i say black racer. the fact it is in a tree could say rat but racers will climb into low branches as well.
