have you ever sat in a cedar swamp when it was close to 0 deg F ? The cedars pop as the trees freeze,sounds similar to a lake booming as the ice settles but not as loud.They pop and like you say they "talk" when they rub each other.

I went to it and the pic doesn't really show how big it is.When your right up to it it is a monster.It has lost a limb on the ground that would be a decent size tree itself.

Plenty to see in that area.for starters an old graveyard next to the mullica river that shows on the topo map,it's just upstream from the landing with a small trail and a very iffy bridge to cross.Along the road to the lower bank bridge there is a nice hike on the west side at a gate with a sign...

this requires an excavation.might have to wait till next winter now with the heat cranking most days but I have shovels and the swamp is right there to jump in and cool off if you want to do it in summer.

a six hour tour in mid summer is a big crazy.In mid day I'd find a place to sit an chill.The summer heat doesn't keep me away it just modifies my behavior,actually I tend to frequent cedar swamps hopefully with deepwater creeks in the summer.
