    Chatsworth North....A PBX Hike

If it wasn't for the head damage, my theory would have been that someone dragged a roadkill into the woods, gutted it, found a little too much damage and walked away. I have done that more than a few times with road kills but usually I find some salvageable meat. Sometimes you just don't know...

    Coyote again

My wife ran scared out of the woods yesterday morning clutching our new puppy. She heard a couple coyotes yipping and howling about a quarter mile into the woods across from our house while walking the dog. The area where she heard them is a wooded slough used as travel lane for deer. They be...

    Chatsworth North....A PBX Hike

Bob forgot the really disturbing part. Half of the deer's head was missing as if shot from very close range with a shotgun. There are no firearm deer seasons in right now, so it looks as if the deer was the victim of illegal and wasteful activity.

    Chatsworth North....A PBX Hike

You're right, the exact location of that stand is really easy to determine from the photos. It is in the middle of the 10,000+/- acre Parker Preserve in a pine tree. Can't miss it. We spent about two minutes there and disturbed nothing. This hunter, with his mechanical feeder and camera...

    Get out and vote!!!

Buying a shotgun for a 10 year old is not an unusual event for a child who is raised around guns and hunting Ben and certainly doesn't indicate a survivalist attitude for the parents. I got my first shotgun at 9 so that I had time to practice with my father before getting my hunting license at...

    Chatsworth North....A PBX Hike

Very subtle Al. I like the way you think. It was a good day in the big woods with great companions and we all enjoyed a little bit of tough going with the added rain. Here are the original soggy bottom boys: http://gallery.njpinebarrens.com/showphoto.php/photo/9640 A view of the misty...

    New Jersey's Public Hunting Lands

For those that are interested, this is a worthwhile organization. http://www.njquailproject.org/ Y-Buc Bill from this site is involved. The state is getting involved as well.

    New Jersey's Public Hunting Lands

I have had springers for over 20 years but I gave up on native birds around 1991. Haven't seen a quail down here since 1991 and grouse are gone too. I refuse to hunt pen raised birds in a WMA with the Orange Army. At least springers are great all around companions in the woods.

    New Jersey's Public Hunting Lands

Fish and Wildlife recently created this web page containing public hunting lands throughout the state. http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/hunting_publicland.htm As you will see, the pines are very well represented. Scott

Well spoken Grendel and full of truth. I can only hope that enough people can see through the haze on election day.

Pine Barrens Clean up Oct 26th.

The first two years that I got involved with the Wharton cleanup, the State held a thank you luncheon and awards ceremony at McGuire AFB for volunteers statewide. It very really nice and they gave out NJDEP Parks and Forestry duffle bags as a gift. Scott

Pine Barrens Clean up Oct 26th.

Great pics and report George. It really is one of the best days that I spend in the woods year and I spend a lot of them. The puppy certainly enjoyed the outing and at only 10 weeks old, he appears to be very well socialized. He was a big hit at the Pic for sure. I can't wait to get some...

    The Economy

It's always in place at my house Bob. Squirrels, duckies, rabbits, deer (roadkill or shot by me and the kids) fish and clams are always on the menu. My credo: If it flies it dies and if its brown it's down. :) I am hand grinding up a big batch of venison burger this morning for Mike to take...

Forest fire SW of Atsion Lake

Winds shifted to SE overnight and the smoke is getting thick down here. Looks like low lying fog until you breathe it in. No smoke at all for two days with the north wind.

    The Economy

My contingency plan is more or less centered on venison and red wine. :)

Forest fire SW of Atsion Lake

Scariest one and the closest to our homes in the 25 years I have lived here George. The rolling clouds of smoke I saw across the field behind Ron's and again behind Petruzzis on my way home, really looked like the WWII pics of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The power and phone outage was the icing on...
