    Pine Barren Flora

More from last week. I used that deet on my hip boots at Dover Forge. The tick larvae crawled right up them as if it wasn't there. Really.

    Pine Barren Flora

Last week I went upstream on the Webb's Mill branch, west of route 539. Unlike the Chamberlin Branch, the water was flowing very strong, leading me to believe that part of that stream gets water directly from the upper aquifer. Well, maybe. Anyway, it was very tough going, had to use log...

Apple Pie Fire Tower - Fence/Gate being installed?

I was at Zion, Hoover Dam, and Bryce Canyon this June. I only learned upon my return that Bryce is a premier location for night viewing.

    Miller's Bog Road Crossing

Rip-rap is a major annoyance in the pines. They've done that in Bamber and Forked River. Very quickly invasives grow between the rocks, leading to a weedy look with a poor view of the water and no access.

    Island Beach Cocktails?

I like what Considine says about Tittel: "If he wants to go set himself on fire and go through his daily Chicken Little routine to get himself through the night, by all means. But we’re not concerned about his concerns" Finally somebody whittles Tittel. He really does make a nuisance of...

    Pine Barrens Tribune

So tell me oh wise one, and let us go back to square one; does there need to be a rooster among the hens in order for them to produce eggs?

    Pine Barrens Tribune

Oh, are you one of those people who think you need a rooster to have eggs in the morning? Where did you grow up?

    Pine Barrens Tribune

You can have a hundred hens in your yard if you like, but do you see that large one in the center of the flock? They call him a rooster. I can do without him. I can no longer sleep with the window open in Bamber, as the one two doors down starts his obnoxious crowing at 3:30 AM. No roosters.

How do we stop the damage?

Things don't always work out neatly. For instance, yesterday, I was exploring the woods right next to the 200+ grass fields west of 539 by the Chamberlin Branch. I was at the edge of a field about 200 yards from the main road. I could hear quite a few quads or dirt bikes in the area of the...

    Christopher's Mill, Medford, NJ

THAT, is a very old mill. Interesting! When I was down the shore this year, I took along a book titled "Apostle of NJ--John Talbot" (1645-1727). The preface has quite a bit of early history. In 1678, when the mill was established, some English Quakers sailed from Hull to Burlington by way of...
