    Nj Covered Bridges

All this time I thought covered bridges were to prevent the horses from being spooked by the sight of the running water below. Covering them to lengthen their life-span makes much more sense though. Great posting Jerseyman, thank you.

    Pine Barren History Shorts

I'm inclined to agree. What an isolated area it is in! In searching the area on google maps I came across this preserve: < link removed by moderator > Off-topic but worthy of noting, I hope.

I'm not a copper wire expert, but in my mind 1200 lbs represents alot of wire...perhaps it was heavy gauge.

Any luck fishing at Atsion lake?

In the 30's, right? That's some diehard fishermen right there! Admittedly, Tom M and I fished back in the day and it was so cold icicles formed on the rod tips. Back before Indian Mills lake was developed.

Any luck fishing at Atsion lake?

Live minnow on a size 8 hook and ultralight outfit with a slow retrieve works each and every time. If they're there you'll know super quick!

    Pine Barren History Shorts

That is one incredible story. I bought a '74 Landcruiser in '74, beige sand color. Perhaps we crossed paths in the pines back in the day.

    Blow-out Tide on the Mullica

Gives me chills, masts of sails, no power boats, a lost time that must have simply been a sight to behold.

    Winter photos so far

Beautiful photos. Indian Mills Brook feeds into what is now called Shadow Lake--we called it Zimmie's Lake in the early 70's. Just off of Stokes Rd and Jackson Rd. There was a huge beaver dam there that has long been replaced by an earthen berm. We encountered river otters upstream--what a...

The Death Of A Pine Barren Explorer

I had a 74 Land Cruiser. My friend and I spent many a day in the pines. He's gone now but like you I have great memories which are priceless and eternal. Auld lang syne.
