Parks directive hits a rough patch

Parks directive hits a rough patch Federal policy will let disabled use motorized vehicles on trails. But not all trails are safe. "But those seemingly simple changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act have New Jersey and county parklands staff scrambling to assess thousands of miles of...

    This Weekend at Stafford Forge

Pancoast! You sir, have quite the eye. Your photography is really a treat. One of your mushroom shots (#32) reminds me of sumi-e. Keep 'em coming! I'm hooked.

Searching For The J Roger Brick Stone

Hey Guy, is most of that ATV damage confined to the area south of the power line cut? I know there are a few gouges running north of it but I've never really had the energy to slog it too far past the cut and take a look.

    A Crawleys paddle, again.

The Blob's a riot. Is it just me or does it have eyes?

    Alquatka Branch: Summer Redux

Thankfully I couldn't find any tracks towards the north. The dumping on the paths leading into this place is getting absolutely out of control, though. I've found asbestos, paint cans, car batteries, reeking lawn clipping mountains, and, of course, another fresh pile of crap from the 4th. I'm...

    Alquatka Branch: Summer Redux

Hmm.. I don't recall a canal. Perhaps I emerged a bit more north of where that canal terminates? My phone automatically marked several points in the trip. I'll connect the dots..

    Alquatka Branch: Summer Redux

That came to mind. Probably should have been my first guess! I'd say it was a nice even blend of flies and mosquitoes.

    Alquatka Branch: Summer Redux

As the title suggests this trip involved a good slogging through the same windy, open savannah the PBX crew went through in April of '08. More for the sake of weather-sealing myself from parasites than staying dry I had on chest waders, gloves and a hooded rain jacket. I looked like I had just...

    Wharton Boundary

Whoops. A busted Iowan piney wannabe. (At least that's what I am most of the year nowadays. Yes, oddly enough I chose to attend college in good 'ol IA. :pigfly:)

    Wharton Boundary

WOAH. One wonders how I let this one fly over my head. I live right on Gravelly for god's sake.. I remember heading through that area about this time last summer. The greenery was lovely but nothing short of a hazmat suit would have kept the flies from me. I'm going to try and hit the place up...

    sawmill for sale

The guy who owns it is named Spike. Better yet, he is 70 years old and has a beard that puts ZZ Top's to shame. Funny guy, or so my old man says anyway.

    cacoon

Seems I'm bringing back a dead thread, but I can't help but mention that these seem to be gypsy moth pupae skins. I'm 100% sure. I can clearly make out the yellow egg masses, as well as the characteristic clustering of those little SOBs. The larger ones you see were most definitely females...

    Eastern Red Bat

I was all ready to post here and label this little fellow as a Big Brown Bat, after seeing one after another, over and over again. Seeing this one was a special treat, especially since this one wasn't flying around half scared to death while trapped in my basement. Since this little one was...

I Got Chiggers on Saturday, and some crazy stinging insect

I think I order a different product. Frontline Plus has one more chemical thrown in the mix to keep fleas in their larval stage and kill them. Normally it costs more than Top Spot, which is just Fipronil (I believe). I found a nice deal today at http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.. bringing the total...

I Got Chiggers on Saturday, and some crazy stinging insect

Ah.. whelp. I just got whacked by the chiggers (aka smallpox) big time via the household feline. If I don't go to them they somehow find a way to me. It drives me out of my mind that feline frontline (Fipronil) is still 45 bucks. Oh well. Speaking of pests.. how is everyone weathering this...

I Got Chiggers on Saturday, and some crazy stinging insect

Not good. It's time again to say goodbye to the sweet carefree bushwhacking days of spring. Time to stockpile dermoplast again. I fear 'em like the plague. They kinda are like a plague.... :jd:
