Visiting the ruins of the Batsto trestle

I've always marveled at the structure of that bridge, either just visiting it or using it as a route to an area I'm exploring. I always stop and look thoughtfully for a long time thinking about the hard work and pride of the men who built it many years ago. It's a gem, a piece of history, deep...

    Beer (again)

Scott. There's another Bell's IPA avaiable in the area. You can kick it up an notch to 9.5% ABV and pick up a 6-pack of Big Hearted IPA, an imperial IPA. I have not tried it. I'll stick with the Two Hearted.

    Beer (again)

Bob, Scott. For my craft beers, my go to brewieres are Bell's out of Michigan and Tonewood, my local brewery in Oak;lyn. In addition to Two Hearted, I like Bell's Oberon, a American Wheat Beer. However, it's a season beer. For Tonewood, I switch between Fuego, their IPA (not pictured) and...

Interest in the History of Swedes Lake and Surrounding Area

I always wonder why that area was called Dredge Harbor. Dredge Harbor in Delran, NJ, began as a sandpit developed into a marine facility by the Parsons brothers in 1939. They recognized the area's potential for boating and established in-water slips, eventually selling boats from popular...

    Music for the day

I was 15 years old when the original version was first recorded. It was inspired by V T Hamlin created comic strip of the same name. Alley Oop was a caveman. We had called one of the neighborhood kids 'Alley Oop' at the time. It just so happens he's my fishing buddy of 70 years. It was our...

    Where is this?

I do extremely little exploring along the major rivers. I tend to explore cedar swamps along small streams, open bogs and seepage areas. And I find myself in thicket areas a lot.too. I have no guess. Someone must know where this is.

    Where is this?

My only guess is that you were in Cape May Point State Park. I see one spot there that could be a more exact location.

    Arethusa in the Rough

Yesterday, Bob and I made a return trip back to the watershed, we call 'Dragon Valley', where we counted a large amount of Arethusa bulbosa (Dragon Mouth) orchids last year, to continue the count on several areas that we didn't have time. We hit two areas on this trip. Bob, chose an area along...

Fire in Greenwood Forest Ocean County Near Jones Road

As for the turkey beard, I saw that same occurrence in the area of the Sykes Branch and Sooey Rd after the Spring Hill Fire. Being in that area several times, I never realize now many plants were present. Being small, they normally hid in the understory. In very short time, they started to come...

History Short of the Varnum Family of Atco

Jessica: I'm not sure how you can follow the Varnum Family tree if you are not a direct descendent going back to the 1600's. In the first 7 generations, my direct Great Grandfathers had 10 to 12 kids each. One had 15. You can see the family tree grew quite large, quite fast, and with different...

While We Were Sleeping, Very Bad Things Happened

If I remember correctly, as I walked down that road with the two spungs, there were nice heavy duty wooden barriers in front of them. If the State wanted to close off that road in question, I would think a similar barrier would have been placed at the foot of that road.
