    In the Line of Fire

My hats off to the fire fighters they do a very dangerous job. Even a large house fire can be fought in relative safety, but a forest fire you are surrounded by the fuel for the fire.

    Martha Area

Nash's cabin: head north on Old Martha Rd. until you cross a bridge. then take the first fire trail on the right. Another point of interest is the large beaver lodge on the pond.

    Croc sighting reported in Haddonfield

I've read on various threads before about turtle poachers. I'm curious what do they do with the turtles?

    Permethrin...impossible to find in stores

I had a B permit. The toms were with hens and would not leave them. They would answer my calls, but the hen would take them the other way.

    Camping

IMO Lower Forge and the Mullica campsites are the better ones in Wharton. They are walk in only camps and have a more remote feeling to them.

    Hiking Trip Out Of State

There are some views at Rickets Glen, stop at the ranger station for a trail map of the park. I second trailhead00 recomendation the falls trail is a must see. I believe it's 21 waterfalls on that trail.

Where exactly do you enter Oswego

Yes it is. As for my hike the other week, I never heard back from Haines and after what you said about the road being a right of way we decided to just go for it. The gate by Old Martha Rd. was open and no one was around so it was a non issue. Thanks for the help everyone had a good time.

Where exactly do you enter Oswego

They are wood chip trailers. Someone is doing some land clearing or trimming the right of way. Last week there was also a tree skidder and an old army tractor parked there.

Where exactly do you enter Oswego

Thanks for the info Guy. I honestly don't know what to think what your saying makes sense. Maybe the woman at Batsto is mistaken. Looking at the USGS map that section of road isn't part of Wharton SFso maybe she just assumed as I did that it must be private property. After all these people are...

Where exactly do you enter Oswego

I checked with Bass River today. They said they thought it was privately owned, but I should check with Wharton SF. Wharton said that it indeed was owned by Haines and they gated the road to keep people off their property. I'm still waiting to hear back from Haines I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Where exactly do you enter Oswego

Good point. It's just with all the posted signs by Haines I just assumed they owned the road. I never gave it a second thought that it might be state owned.

Where exactly do you enter Oswego

I called Haines today to ask permission to use the road for a hike. The woman I spoke to didn't seem to know much about the area I was talking about and said she would have to check with her brother. I'll let you know what they have to say when I hear back from them.

Where exactly do you enter Oswego

If Haines and Haines don't own the road then how can they gate it?
