Want to visit Joseph Wharton's Crab Island fish factory? Come fly with me!

Brought back some awesome memories from my early days in the late 60's. Local neighbor would load a bunch of us kids up in the back of his old open bed pickup truck (imagine seeing that today) for a 5 AM run down Rt 539 from from Trenton to Great Bay Blvd. We would visit either Captain Mikes or...

    PayPal

I found them many years back to be a level below slime, whatever that may be. Used to do a substantial amount of business through them via Ebay then notified one day that my account was frozen because my adult son owed them some back fees? Since we share a common name they just on their own...

    Bass Pro Shop opens

The "Outpost" version of their stores are their smallest. I agree AC is a horrible location but looks like a no brainer for Bass Pro. State funded the loan for about 90% of the cost and as usual a list of tax breaks. Also, only free parking if you drop 50 bucks in the store.

A couple Pine Barrens shots from my brother, Ken Moore

Spectacular! Thanks so much for sharing. I needed a dose of that.

    Decorated 539 Stone

I believe I had read an article years back in "The Sandpaper" that it did fall off of a truck delivering the larger boulders for construction of the south jetty at Barnegat in the early 40's when the first inlet jetty was constructed. I think the rocks were shipped from the quarries around the...

    Warren Grove Bombing Range Tour

Ditto. Bummer that something so rare an opportunity wasn't shared in advance. Being a paid tour, could have made a few extra bucks for the PPA too.

    Godfrey Bridge Campground

I agree Karl, Hawkins is in no way a picture of what it once was. I was by there a couple weeks back and didn't see any sites that really caught my eye when compared to the space 2 years back. I think the changes have to do with Reserve America taking over the reservation system and the State...

    NY, New England Vacation Ideas?

Upstate New York is my all time favorite camping and outdoor vacation destination. Take a peek at Old Forge New York for lots to do, nice small town and plenty of lodging options. My next favorite location is Wilmington New York but a bit of a haul up in the Lake Placid area.

Pine Barrens in for late season hurricane or big northeaster?

Lost power in Hamilton Mercer County about 3:00 PM and still out and on a generator. For the past few hours fairly steady flashes in the sky of downed lines and tranformers I would assume. For kicks called PSEG and their automated estimated time of restoration....Monday Nov 5th! Now Iwould...

    Duke Farms

Not Pines related and for that I apologize but certainly related to the many things people love here and certainly nature and environment related and I know something I'd want to be aware of. Visited the recently reopened to the public Duke Farms this past weekend. A fascinating story and...

    Anybody Fly Fish?

I've walked this property many times over the past several years while camping down that way in the Spring and Fall. Apparently this was quite a club in its day. The buildings were removed just in the last year and there were quite a few. Rather interesting watching nature claim back the golf...

    Bull's Island Recreation Area

Sad, this was a very beautiful campground on the Delaware. The continued decline of New Jersey State Parks and Campgrounds. Rather depressing, little to be proud of in NJ anymore. You look at our neighboring States and see the pride they have in their State Park systems.

    Moonshiners Show

From what I have been reading the State of Virginia is pretty pissed about how the show actually ended up being put together. I guess they were under the impression that it was going to viewed soley from the law enforcement side. As for the moonshiners side of things and as mentioned, kind of...

    Oregon 450 sale at REI

"Next time, make sure everybody sets their track recording parameters the same - once per second would be best, but that limits you only about 2 hrs 40 minutes before the log file fills up. Is this perhaps the answer to Guy's question? The log file filled up due to frequent sampling and the 2...

2 injured in North Jersey bear attack

Sent out via email today from the NJDEP. The NJDEP is advising residents and outdoor enthusiasts in North Jersey, especially in areas regularly frequented by black bears, to strictly adhere to guidelines for eliminating or securing potential black bear food sources during the fall period when...

    Question on Freshwater Fishing

Might want to give Turnmill Pond in Colliers Mills a try. Reported today via an email that was sent out: The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife has been performing a fish salvage operation at Prospertown Lake (Ocean County) since the outlet structure failed earlier this week. The lake, a...

Customers report water in gasoline purchased from N.J. Wawa

A recent article in Philadelphia Magazine all about Wawa I found to be very interesting. Their sales numbers are mind boggling. The early pre Wawa company history dates back to Millville and the formation of Union Lake of which the Woods family still holds considerable lake frontage. Love em or...
