    Terrain viewer update coming

Such a neat area. That paleo shoreline is really neat. Notice that the drumlins north of the old shoreline are not as tall as the ones to the south, indicating that they were beneath the waters of glacial Lake Iroquois.

Good chance you were, but I don't see a target when the map loads so I don't know where exactly you were.

    Atsion River?

Notice that the water levels are significantly lower in the 1940 aerial than they are in the 1931 aerials. Perhaps the dam broke in 1939, but enough of the earthen portion of the dam was in place to keep Atsion Creek ponded. Unfortunately, between the ink mark-up and the image splicing, we can't...

Looks like the Atco branch was built in 1862?

    Atsion River?

It does seem that way, but perhaps there was more water in that channel when the canal was dug. It looks like it predates the railroad. When was that constructed?

    Atsion River?

Very cool! Hadn't noticed that before. At the moment, I can't think of any examples of places where Wharton actually started constructing any of the planned canals and dams. In any case, I suspect this canal you've found predates Wharton ownership and served to divert water to Atsion Lake to...

    Atsion River?

I got the 1939 date from John Pearce (Heart of the Pines). I would need to comb through the book to see if he gives a reference for that date, but there's a good chance that he got the info from Budd Wilson.

    Atsion River?

Boyd and all, The pond on Atsion Creek was called New Pond (gotta love the originality). See here: http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/mullica-be-dammed.4979/post-54629 As for the nomenclature, think of it this way: The Mullica has two main branches: The east branch (Batsto Creek) and...

Portable sawmill ruins near Quaker Bridge Tavern

I should correct myself: It's more like 2.3 miles as the crow flies from Quaker Bridge, just east of Penn Swamp.

    Slope Map Black

Yes, slope degrees is useful for mountainous terrain. But you have to look at the screen at just the right angle to get the most of it.

    Budd Wilson

Ah, Budd! What a tremendous human being. It was a privilege to get to know him over the years. Always generous with his time and knowledge. Always modest and inquisitive. Our last adventure together was 10 years ago when we explored the Nescochague Creek for remains of past operations. At one...

    Mystery UFO drone crash landed???

Has anyone come across any compelling videos of these drones? The only videos I've seen depict airplanes and helicopters that were somehow misidentified.
