I have this unit and I really like it. The screen definition and features are much better than the $100-$150 Nuvi's. That's possible that they're adding a new model. I do know that if I want to update the maps or add any apps to it I just need to connect to the Garmin website and connect it to my computer with a USB and then I can download whatever I want or whatever has been updated.

Garmin typically introduces new models at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas just after New Years. But the 34xx series is already an old model from 2 or 3 years ago. That was a great price on the 3490 however. Thanks -haha, yeah it turned into a big project. But this was something that has never been documented and I wanted to try my hand at a bit of technical writing. I spend 1 to 2 hours in the pines everyday - right outside my back door.
