All,

This Saturday Bob (BobM) and I (Guy) will be taking a tour of some of the places in the pines we visited years ago in our youth, and all are invited to travel with us. This is not a ghost town or cemetery tour, but a celebration of sorts of out genuine Pine Barren landscape.

We will be meeting at Oswego lake at 9:30 AM in the parking area. If
you are coming through Chatsworth, give yourself time to get to Oswego
lake because the Cranberry Festival will be in full swing. Our first
stop will be minutes away at Bear Swamp Hill where I will have some
photo's showing the changes that have occurred over the years there. I
will also point out the location of the Geodetic Markers, and if the
majority is interested we will walk down to the landing gear. Bob will
then take the lead, and we will visit as many of the following places
as we can time permitting.

Plains Branch (just a little stop at a creek)

Broom Crowberry by FAA tower

Back-track on 539 to a good view of the plains (off the road
leading to bombing range).

Forked River Mountain with a side trip to Guy’s camp.

Aserdaten Area

Chamberlin Branch gun camp

Webb’s Mill Bog and the rye fields

Bamber Bridge

Dover Forge

Ten Mile Hollow

Bob will direct us to Lucille’s in Warren Grove for lunch, where you
can pick up a sandwich and drink, or you can bring your own. We plan to
eat in the pines somewhere.

Directions to Oswego Lake:

From the South:

Head on 542 East into Green Bank, and pick up 563 North. Continue for
about 7 miles until you see a road on your right with a street sign
saying Lake Oswego Road. This is between mile markers 31 and 32. Turn
right and follow that road for about 3 miles, cross the bridge and pull
into the parking area on the right.

From Chatsworth:

Head South on 563 about 8 miles until you see a street sign saying Lake
Oswego Road on your left. This is between mile marker 31 and 32. Turn
left and follow that road for about 3 miles, cross the bridge and pull
into the parking area on the right.

We will be mostly traveling on dirt roads. If you have a vehicle you
don’t mind getting dusty, bring that and share if you can.

Guy
