My wife and I were out near Penn Swamp today but on the way home, I wheeled in to a spot close to home near Parkdale for a photo or two.
This is a house that I have been gradually learning more about.
An older friend of mine knew the owner and stopped in to visit him quite often.
If the owner were still alive, he would be 102 this year.
The sun was fading and it made for the perfect light.
My wife can be seen peeking out of the window in the one shot.
Perfect end to a great day in the woods.

Did you see the date and initials I found on the porch?

Scott, the guy built in a wetland? I noticed his backyard is a bit more than damp.

Scott mentioned that the state or town of Hammonton did some alterations semi recently in that area that causes it to flood. I suspect it didn't flood when he lived there.

The area where the house is constructed would have met today's technical definition for a wetland but it was never as wet as it is today.
Groundwater within 12" of the surface and hydrophytes will get you a wetland designation.
As you come down the main road, you will notice a subtle, large rise and a pipe beneath the road about 200 yds. before the house.
This filled in area was created about 15 years ago by either Hammonton or the owner of the active bogs to eliminate a wet spot in the road.
The work impounded the area on the house side of the road.
I used to pick blueberries each year in the cultivated rows in front of the house and never needed boots. Today you are standing in 9"-1' of water all around the house, year round.
I will try to post the 1968 Press article about the guy this week.
The house is in the background of the newspaper photo with laundry flapping on the porch.
