I hope this doesn't spread to the US...

"This method allows (al-Qaeda) to inflict significant economic and moral damage without serious preliminary preparations, technical equipment or significant expenses."

In linking al-Qaeda to the deadly wildfires, Mr Bortnikov pointed to calls to launch a "forest jihad" by various extremist websites which he said also publish detailed instructions about how and where to best carry out arson.

He said it was very difficult for special services to find and prosecute such arsonists.

Deadly fires have swept through forest land in EU countries such as Portugal and Spain over the past few months, killing scores of people and forcing thousands to evacuate.

I have to admit that al-Qaeda is very creative in some of its attack schemes. The groups leaders may be watching sixties' reruns of Batman for inspiration. These are acts of desperation and to get media attention. Didn't the Japanese attempt to start forest fires along the west coast with bombs attached to balloons following the jet stream during World War ll?

Btw - Al-Qaeda should add cliffhanger notes at the end of its videos to keep the rest of world tuned in.

So while I'm out hunting, should I shoot anyone who looks Islamic? This just sounds like paranoia to me. Al-Qaeda behind every tree? Come on folks, New Jersey's most recent, largest forest fire was an accident caused by our own military.

Yeah, the irony of the "errant bomb" starting the big fire also occurred to me. Or the accidental strafing of the school with live ammo during a training exercise. I don't think Al Qaeda is starting fires in the Pines. But I would not completely rule out the possibility at some future date.

Remember the Fort Dix terror plot? Or this guy? http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/terror-suspect-grew-up-in-buena.6296/

They might not be capable of blowing up Ft Dix or a nuke plant, but they could certainly start a forest fire. And it is not unheard of for arson to be a cause of fires in the pines. I am not "paranoid" about this and I didn't suggest that you "shoot anyone who looks Islamic". But it does provide a little food for thought...
