My grandfather lived in Atsion in what is now the deer club....my mother...her 4 sisters...and one brother were born in that house....I was born in Junior Russell's house over and back of the Pic-a-Lilly Inn near the cranberry bog....my mother worked for Pickett Russell when I was born...I didn't grow up in the area.....but my mother, brother, and I lived with Junior Russell in his house across from the lake in Atsion for awhile....I did attend Indian Mills school for a short time.....lived in Camden from 3rd to 5th grade....then moved to Barnegat, NJ for 6th to 8th grade...then to high school at Southern Regional High in Manahawkin, NJ....then ended up in Cinnaminson, NJ....and driving cab for Cherry Hill Cab out of Willingboro plaza....then moved to Los Angeles in 1968 and I now live in Santa Monica, California....

I am looking for historical facts of Atsion.....I'm writing a book and need information....links to sites...thanks

When the state purchased the gun club in the 50's it was called the Gloucester Gun Club. I believe it is still called that but I may be wrong. it is .3397 acres in size.

Here were the owners of the dwellings along Atsion Rd in the mid 50s. Take notice of residence #5 below. That house was owned by Pickett Russell and not Junior Russell so could you be somewhat confused on the owner? Maybe Junior owned it by the time you were there or maybe he was just using it.

Residence #1

John Wells formally onwed by Andrew Ethredge and Phoebe at the turn of the century and they sold it to Theodore Kell in 1907.

Residence #2

James Adams Sr. and Blanche and Norman Adams and Helen purchased it from John Etheridge and Mamie Sallie and Florence Miller on 1/13/1950

Residence #3

John R. Wells and Nora I. Wells purchased it from George Kell on 5/24/1941

Residence #4

Norman E. Adams purchased it from Maude C. Kell on 9/15/1951

Residence #5

Pickett B. Russell and Florence V purchased it from Thomas W. Fauver and Mildred E. on 8/8/1947

The total acreage of all of the private holding along Atsion Rd by the lake was 9.4812.

What was Pickett Russell's business that your mom worked for/at?

So you are saying that they rented cabins. Can you tell us anything more about that?
