There is a big fire in Wharton somewhere behind the boot camp. The fire trucks were heading there about an hour ago according to Dragon. And now on the news they are saying it has the potential to be a big one.

Just went out at my house and smell smoke. I am 20 miles away. If it is from the fire this would be the first time I smelled one from the pines.

Helpful Wildfire Terminology
Wildfire - An uncontrolled fire burning the different types of vegetation that cover the land. A wildfire is considered a “major wildfire” after it exceeds 100 acres in size.
Containment - When reporting on a wildfire a percentage of containment will be given, which will state how much of the fireline has been completed.
Backfire - A fire intentionally set along the interior edge of a fireline by Forest Fire Service staff to consume fuel in the path of a wildfire and/or to change the direction of force of a fire’s convection column.
Fireline - The part of a containment or control line that is scraped or dug to mineral soil.
Threatened - Critical infrastructure, roads, homes and commercial buildings that are in the vicinity of a wildfire.

At 9:00 Am the FFS was pulling a large travel trailer into the Carranza parking lot followed by an entourage of official and unofficial vehicles. It was labeled Incident Command Post. There are 3 active camps at Batona.

Smelled it the whole way home from Philly and was wondering if the Canadian fires were still burning and blowing down. Guess not :-( Didn't see any smoke plume like usual but was/is very hazy
